Las Vegas Premier Division 1 2010/11

03/27/11 Partick Thistle 4-2 Nellis Air Force Base, A great game lots of controversy, handbags, and referees strutting across the field to impose order but alas Nellis new mascot " Paul the alien" was not enough to inspire them to victory but their team spaceship they left on was very impressive.....
03/20/11 Partick Thistle 0 Stoke City 6, yes we lost 6-0,! 5-1 last week and now this! We have 3 goalkeepers all out, 3 other players injured, 3 more working and 2 awol! Next week......

03/13/11 Partick Thistle 1 Preston NE 5.We got humped against a depleted Preston team, sweet revenge for them after we beat them 7-1 a few weeks ago. Only 10 players today and 3 of them were carrying injuries,5 others had informed they could not make it, that left 6 awol !! Letting me know the day of the game is not acceptable!! When you get the text then you inform me- got it!

02/27/11 Partick Thistle 3 Brewery 0. A very competitive game which was to be Josh Petersons last game for Thistle. The first twenty minutes Thistle created chances and were unable to capitalize. With the absence of Ollie Smith, Martin Kenny was moved up into the striker role. He didn't hesitate in letting the coach know that he likes that position when he opened up the scoring. Thistle made hard work of the game as countless chances could of put the game away before half time. Josh acting as team captain today decided to run through the Brewery defense and took a shot on goal. to his surprise the goal keeper couldn't handle the ball and let it slip through his legs. Thistle put the pressure on to put the game away and from a long throw in, Josh Peterson got his head on the ball for Martin Kenny to get his brace with an excellent volley. A great way to send Josh on his way. Partick Thistle Las Vegas would like to thank Josh Peterson for his past 5 years of service in midfield unfortunately for us Josh has decided to move to Kansas following his career but hopefully one day he will click his heels and be back playing with the Vegas Jags! All the best Josh!!!!

02/20/11 Partick Thistle 6 Preston NE. 1. The score line doesn't depict the whole story as Preston started the game short  handed. It took 20 minutes for Thistle to take advantage as some bad finishing touches around goal and some remarkable saves from the Preston goal keeper kept the score from getting crazy. Thistle did score as Ollie Smith and John Bentley hooked up for John to open the scoring. Not long after, Ollie Smith opened up his account with a cheeky lob over the keeper. Preston pulled a goal back as the Thistle defense failed to clear their lines. Half time 2-1. As the game progressed Preston started to wear down and the goals started to come thick and fast. Ollie Smith completed his  hat trick to make it 4-1. Laslo Weyland and Martin Kenny added their names to the score sheet to bring the final score to 6-1.

02/06/11 Partick Thistle 0 Stoke City 4. Thistle suffered its  worse lot of the season, without a regular goalkeeper and no strikers. This was always going to be an uphill battle against a team out for revenge and the points to regain the top spot in the league. The way Thistle started it was Stoke who were on the back foot as Thistle created the chances. Twenty minutes passed with no one breaking the deadlock. It wasn't until the lack of a regular goalkeeper took its toll as a couple of errors gave Stoke a two goal lead. Heads dropped and Stoke took complete advantage scorer a couple more to put the icing on the cake. Final score 0-4.

01/09/11 Partick Thistle 3 Brewery 3. A tough but entertaining game in which you could really say Thistle accounted for all six goals. Brewery came out strong and caught the Thistle defense napping as the ball was cheaply given away in midfield to take an early 1-0 lead. Within minutes the scores were level by a goal from Brian Grisham. That goal settled Thistle and their confidence grew as a goal mouth scrabble from a corner saw Matt Shelling hammer the ball into the back of the net. Another individual effort from John put Thistle 3-1 up and the Brewery heads were dropping. Just before half time Thistle gifted Brewery a goal to get them back into the game. Half time 3-2. Brewery must of sensed that Thistle were not playing at their best. The speed of their forwards was causing havoc with the Thistle midfield. Thistle's main problem was stringing a couple of passes together, as each possession was cheaply given away. Brewery put the pressure on the Thistle back line causing a seemingly harmless back pass to be directed into their own goal. Thistle pushed on to get the winner but to no avail as each play broke down with a bad pass. Final score 3-3.

01/09/11 Partick Thistle 3 Nellis 0. Game won by forfeit there spaceship got lost!.....

12/12/10 Partick Thistle 2 Stoke City 1. Top of the table clash we just managed to edge one of our main rivals in a very close game, well done lads 5 games 15 points!

12/05/10 Partick Thistle 3 Preston NE 1. Great game, good weather, lots of subs (8), fans and flags makes one happy manager!
Played 4 got 12 points joint top with Stoke, good start.

11/21/10 Partick Thistle 3 Generals 1.Thistle maintained their 100 % record with a hard fought game against the Generals. The game was locked at 0-0 at the half with both sides having some good chances to open up the scoring. Thistle came out strong in the second with some good ball play between the forwards to give Oliver Smith a welcome return to the team. Generals didn't let their heads drop as they pushed for the equalizer. A defensive error gave them that chance as the Generals forward broke through to score. The game was anybodies again. Oliver Smith squashed any ideas that Thistle were going to give this game away as he completed his hat-trick to make the final score 3-1.

11/14/10 Partick Thistle 3 Brewery 0.This game was anybodies to take. It took until the last ten minutes of the game for Thistle to break open the Brewery defense, after that Brewery collapsed and Thistle where able to add two more. Final score 3-0.

10/31/10 Partick Thistle 4 Nellis 2. A great start to the season as Thistle came out on top against a resilient Nellis team. A thunder strike from Joe Rohr was the highlight of the game.

Las Vegas Premier Division 1 2009/10

01/24/10 Partick Thistle 2 NBCFC 2. Thistle gave this game away after taking the lead from goals from Seto Mardirossian and Laslo Weyland. They always say that a 2-0 lead is a dangerous one as Thistle fell asleep for the last twenty minutes and gave NBCFC the opportunity to claim the draw. Final score 2-2.

01/10/10 Partick Thistle 5 Preston N.E. 1. Thistle came out of the blocks hot as a pistol as some good touches through the midfield found Seto Mardirossian open to score within five minutes of the game starting. Thistle were finding the through ball past the central defense of Preston was being very effective as a few opportunities to increase the lead could of put the game out of reach early. Thistle scored from a corner as the ball scrambled in the box for Martin Kenny to pick up the scraps to put Thistle 2-0 up at the half. Preston had a couple of chances of their own but for poor finishing they couldn't take advantage. Half time 2-0. Thistle started the second half blazing. Within six minutes they had doubled the lead as Seto broke through to the by line and returned the ball to John Crawley who slotted the ball into the back of the net. Thistle's second of the half came from some good play from Brian Grisham who chested the ball down and chipped the ball over the keeper. Fifteen minutes later Seto Mardirossian completed his brace of goals as he shrugged off a couple of defenders and make it 5-0 to Thistle. Preston did eventually get a consolation goal to make the final score 5-1.

01/03/10 Partick Thistle 5 FF United 3. A high scoring affair to a thrilling game. Thistle started off the game with a goal in the first five minutes as Ed Slater followed up a move from Seto Mardirossian. Seto didn't take long to get on the score sheet to put Thistle up 2-0. Thistle played some good football going forward and within thirty minutes Laslo Weyland had made it three. Unfortunately Thistle's midfield started to get a little goal hungry and neglected to fulfill their duties as United pulled a goal back at the half. That goal for United lifted their team as they pushed forward and gave the Thistle defense a major scare. Some good goal keeping from Mark Collingbourne, the post and a couple of goal line clearances kept the game at 3-1. Carlos Burger eased the pain for Thistle as he increased Thistles lead and a second goal from Ed Slater should of put the game to bed. The last ten minutes became a little worrying for the Thistle managers as United didn't give up and began to claw back at the score. The final whistle finally came to a sigh of relief with the score at 5-3.

12/20/09 Partick Thistle 1 Stoke City 2. A highly entertaining game for the neutral but unfortunately Thistle came out at the wrong end of it. A game that deserved to be a draw ended with Stoke getting the three points from a shot from Terry Devlin just outside the box. The Thistle goal keeper couldn't hold onto the ball as the Stoke striker got the rebound. Stoke had taken the lead early in the first half, with Thistle finally getting the equalizer through Seto Mardirossian.

12/13/09 Partick Thistle 7 Eastern 0. After a very slow start to the season Thistle finally put together a complete performance. Thistle's first attack of the game resulted in a goal from Carlos Burger. For the next twenty five minutes though Thistle couldn't get the ball into the back of the net. Some good goal keeping kept Eastern in the game until Seto Mardirossian rounded the keeper to make it 2-0 at the half. Thistle needed to me more direct and positive in front of goal. That proved the case in the second half as Thistle peppered shots at the Eastern goal. Ethan Corsell got his name on the score sheet as he followed the attacking play from midfield. Thistle began to get the ball out wide as David Cluer, fresh from baby duties, sent in a cross to the head of Seto Mardirossian, who unselfishly headed the ball into the path of Eric Arlt to score his first goal of the season. Eastern's heads dropped as Thistle continued to attack their goal. Carlos Burger scored the best goal of the game as he fired in a shot from outside the box into the top right hand corner. Thistle moved a few players around and within minutes Martin Kenny had scored Thistle's sixth and seventh goals. A much better performance which will give Thistle confidence going into next weekends game against Stoke. Final score  7-0.

12/06/09 Partick Thistle 2 Nellis 5. Thistle's bad run of form continued as Nellis found themselves with a 4-1 lead at the half. Thistle came out strong in the second half and scored within two minutes of the re start. It looked as though Thistle could mount a comeback but, the mountain was too steep to climb as Nellis got everyone behind the ball to squash any attack Thistle through at them. Thistle have definitely hit a slump in form and need to return to the fundamentals of the game to work through this bad patch if they are to recover to challenge for the league.

11/22/09 Partick Thistle 2 Preston N.E. 2. Thistle had to fight back from 2 nil down to rescue the game. Seto Mardirossian scoring with five minutes left to save Thistle's blushes.

11/15/09 Partick Thistle 0 Generals 3. Thistle's real test of the new season and defensive errors and the lack of touch in front of goal proved costly as Thistle take their first loss of the season.

11/08/09 Partick Thistle 3 NBC FC 0. NBC forfeited the game to give Thistle two wins for the season.

11/01/09 Partick Thistle 4 FF United 2. Thistle started the new season with a well deserved win.

Las Vegas Premier Division 1 2008/09

08/30/09 Partick Thistle 1 Stoke City 2. Another disappointing end to the season as Thistle go down to Stoke City in the Summer League Final. Thistle had no answer to the back four of Stoke as they held Seto Mardirossian to a limited amount of touches. The first half was very tight with both sides having few chances to make a goal. Stoke squashed every chance Thistle had while causing trouble with some good counter attacking. Half time 0-0. A mistake early in the second half gave Stoke the lead. This opened up the game to make it more entertaining as Thistle pushed for the equalizer. The goal finally came from an opportunistic cross from Thistle left back Mick as the ball sailed over the outstretched arms of the Stoke City keeper. Thistle pushed for the winner and were denied a very good shout for a penalty as Martin Kenny was thought to be brought down in the box. The referee ruled for a free kick out side the area and another chance was squandered. Thistle's tiring back line gave to much time to the Stoke City forwards as they created a chance from nothing to put Stoke back in front. Thistle pushed everyone forward and gave a good account for themselves in the last ten minutes. It was Stoke though that sucked up all the pressure to prevail and win the Summer League Cup. Final score 2-1.

08/23/09 Partick Thistle 6 Preston N.E. 0. After a weekend of festivities with the ten year birthday bash at Fado Irish Pub on Friday, Thistle were back at work for the semi final of the Summer League Cup. Thistle were making hard work of it as everything was breaking down in the middle of the park with an array of errant passing. Thistle finally got on the score board from Seto Mardirossian. That goal calming a few nerves as the passing slowly got better. A break through from Celso Bordinhao, as he rounded the Preston keeper to make it 2-0 at the half. Last time we played Preston we allowed them to get back into the game. The way Preston started the second half it appeared to be happening again, as they came out strong and caused a few problems in the Thistle defense. A brace from Aaron Pottorff and some magic one touch football from Laslo, Celso and Seto, allowed Seto to score his second. Preston were done, especially after another moment of magic from Seto as he lobbed the ball from the left flank over the keeper to record his hat trick. Final score 6-0.

08/16/09 Partick Thistle 4 Nellis 6. A depleted Thistle side were no match for the heat, a full strength Nellis team and no subs. Thistle could only muster eight players out of a roster of over twenty as vacations and other commitments took priority. A brave effort though from the guys that did show up as Seto Mardirossian bagged four more goals to his tally. It wasn't until the last 15 minutes of the game that an exhausted Thistle back line caved in. Nellis scored two goals in the last five minutes to earn a moral victory of 6-4.

08/09/09 Partick Thistle 1 Stoke City 1. A very entertaining match between the top two teams in the league. As always it was a very close encounter as for the first twenty minutes each team tested ways to break through the respective defenses. Thistle enjoyed the better of the chances as the Stoke keeper was kept busy. It was Stoke though who counter attacked with a long ball over the back of the Thistle defense. The Thistle keeper hesitated in coming out which proved costly as the Stoke striker made no mistake. Half time 1-0 to Stoke. Thistle made a few changes and controlled the middle of the park. The final ball to the forwards was lacking as Stoke pressured the ball handler. A break away by newcomer Wes down the left gave Seto Mardirossian the opportunity to take the ball to the line, with a perfect cross into the box, David Cluer got his head on the ball to equalize. Thistle pushed for the winner but couldn't get past the Stoke keeper who had an excellent game. Final score 1-1.

08/02/09 Partick Thistle 4 Eastern FC 1. With a few of the regulars taking part in a tournament in Los Angeles, Billy had to call upon the Tuesday night team to fill in the gaps. Thistle started the game off well with the team getting to know each other. It was Eastern though that took a long ranged shot towards stand in goal keeper Matt Schelling that found the back of the net. Thistle regrouped and before long they found the back of the net with a well worked set of short passes which found Celso Bordinhao open for him to slot it home for the equalizer. Billy brought on the changes as the 110 degree heat was starting to tell. Thistle dominated the rest of the half as a succession of corner kicks caused a goal mouth scramble with Martin Kenny picking up the scraps. Half time 2-1. Thistle started the second half with the original eleven that kicked off the first half and pushed forward to put the game away. After forcing a corner, David Cluer swung the ball into the box causing problems for the Eastern goal keeper, who pushed the ball into his own goal. Eastern had more problems with set pieces as Thistle forced another own goal after another goal mouth scramble. Thistle could of extended the lead as Seto Mardirossian broke down the left and sent across a perfect pass to the on rushing Billy Smith. Need I say more as the final score remained at 4-1.

07/26/09 Partick Thistle 2 Preston N.E. 2. This was a game that Thistle gave away. After an excellent first half performance which saw Thistle take a two goal lead at the half with goals from Celso Bordinhao and Seto Mardirossian, they were never in the second half. Preston came out in the second half with a lot more enthusiasm and put a lot more pressure on the ball. Thistle didn't adjust as Preston with only two minutes left equalized to make the final score 2-2.

07/19/09 Partick Thistle 7 Brewery 1. A depleted Brewery squad were no match for Thistle as every attack was clinically finished. Thistle's passing was crisp and on target as Celso and Seto enjoyed some great service to bag a hat trick each. Billy Smith coming on for the last few minutes found himself wide open and free on goal. He made no mistake as he buried his shot in the top right hand corner. Final score 7-1.

05/17/09 Partick Thistle 0 Premier 3. Another heart break for Thistle as they go down in their second final in two weeks.  Premier playing a much stronger team than a month ago, totally dominated the game. Thistle came out flat and where punished for it.

05/10/09 Partick Thistle 1 Stoke City 2. Stoke City came from behind to lift the William Smith Trophy. As always both sides kept each other at bay for most of the first half. Thistle enjoyed most of the chances and were starting to show their dominance, especially in the air. 30 minutes in and from a corner Matt Shelling crashed into the box and scored off his knee to make it 1-0 at the half. Stoke came out strong in the second half as they controlled most of the possession. Thistle were having problems holding the ball in the middle of the field and kept giving the ball away cheaply. A Stoke counter attack resulted in the equalizer and it was game on. Thistle hadn't recovered and within minutes they were 2-1 down as Chris Schork, the Thistle keeper came out of his area to head the ball clear. His header came off the Stoke forward, who found himself with an open net. With 15 minutes still to play, Thistle pushed everyone forward. Wave after wave of attacks on the Stoke City goal, but Thistle couldn't break through the resilient defense. One last chance found Carlos Burger one on one with the keeper, his effort was pushed wide and Stoke wins the game and the trophy. Final score 2-1.

05/03/09 Partick Thistle 3 Stoke City 0. A few key players were absent from the line up today. Most of them drowning their sorrows after Ricky Hatton got his arse kicked by the Pacman. Today was the semi final of the Final 4. The first half was pretty uneventful as both sides were having problems controlling the ball. Half time 0-0. Thistle came out strong in the second and scored on their first possession with Laslo Weyland drilling in a shot that was too hot for the Stoke keeper to handle. Seto Mardirossian pounced on the rebound to give Thistle the lead. Stoke hardly got settled before Laslo Weyland put Thistle up 2-0. It was a good twenty minute spell for Thistle as they kept up the pace and from a corner they managed to put enough pressure on the Stoke keeper for him to direct the ball into his own net. Stoke tried to get back into the game but were denied by Chris Schork in the Thistle goal. Stoke were definitely not the same team that beat Thistle a month earlier. Final score 3-0.

04/26/09 Partick Thistle 3 Preston N.E.2. A change of venue today as we played on the grass of Buffalo and Washington due to the cancer awareness walk in Green Valley. Thistle started the game full of confidence after last weekends game. They maintained majority of the possession in the first half but couldn't find that defining pass to the forwards. It was a mix up in the Thistle defense after a substitution that gave Preston the go a head goal. After a bit of grumbling, Thistle finally settled down and played some good football. Half time 1-0 to Preston. Things didn't get any better for Thistle, as the first attack from Preston resulted in the Preston forward beating the offside trap and lobbing the ball over the Thistle keeper. At 2-0 down advancing into the final of the League Cup was looking doubtful. Thistle still couldn't get that finishing touch to create a goal. Twenty minutes into the second half Josh found the net and gave Thistle a lifeline. Thistle upped the tempo and Seto Mardirossian broke away from forty yards out to round the keeper to tie the game. At 2-2 the last fifteen minutes were going to be hectic. Thistle didn't want the game to go to penalties. Thistle pushed forward for the game winner. A corner was awarded to Thistle, it was a low drive towards the six yard box. Josh came running in from outside of the area were he made contact with the ball to crash it into the back of the net. Thistle came back from 2-0 to take the game with a final score of 3-2. Thistle now await the winners of Stoke City and Brewery.

04/19/09 Partick Thistle 5 Premier 1. The hot weather arrived after last weekends snow. Premier started the game a man down but Thistle couldn't take advantage as Premiers first real attack resulted in a goal, as a mix up in the Thistle defense allowed the Premier forward to slot the ball into the net. Not the start Thistle needed but after a few minutes of arguing amongst themselves they finally settled down and began to play some good football. After a few near misses Thistle got the equalizer as Seto Mardirossian dribble passed two defenders. Half time 1-1. Premier had no substitutes and the pace of the game and the hot weather finally took its toll. Thistle moved the ball out wide which opened up the Premier defense. Seto Mardirossian put Thistle ahead and immediately subbed himself to get a breather. Five minutes on the bench was enough time to freshen up. The substitution paid dividends as Seto scored his hat trick. Premier had ran out of steam and Thistle took total advantage as Juan put the game away to make it 4-1. Seto took another five minute break. I think we might be on to something here as he scored again to make the final score 5-1.

04/05/09 Partick Thistle 1 Stoke City 2. Back to the regular league and Stoke City produced one of their better and well balanced games of the season. They finally got the monkey off their back by beating Thistle who seemed a bit rusty from the break. Thistle enjoyed most of the possession but couldn't produce the finishing touch. It was to be a frustrating morning for the Thistle forwards as Stoke continued to defend well and break down any attack Thistle through at them. Stoke had two shots on goal and converted both. Thistle did manage to pull a goal back with some good work from Laslo Weyland but it wouldn't be enough as the game ended 2-1 in the favor of Stoke.

03/22/09 Partick Thistle 5 Brewery 2. The third leg of the League Cup and Thistle moved onto the Semi Finals to face Preston N.E.

03/08/09 Partick Thistle 3 Capriotti's 0. The second match of the round robin League Cup. Unfortunately Capriotti's were unable to field a full team so Thistle were awarded the game. We did manage to get a little scrimmage in.

03/01/09 Partick Thistle 2 Nellis AFB 1. This was the first round of the League Cup. Thistle has been drawn against Nellis, Capriotti's and Brewery in Section 2. Two teams qualify for the next round against two teams from Section 1. Nellis were looking for their first victory against Thistle. Within five minutes of the game, a goal mouth scramble ended up in the back of the Thistle net to put Nellis up 1-0. Thistle were creating most of the chances and maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the first half. Thistle were awarded a corner. David Cluer came over from right midfield to take it. The ball was curled into the area towards the goal. The Nellis goal keeper made a complete mess of it and gave Thistle the equalizer they deserved. Thistle kept up the pressure on the Nellis goal keeper. Another attack down the left as the ball found Josh breaking through. He made his way to the edge of the box and slotted the ball past two defenders into the bottom right corner. Half time 2-1. The second half saw Nellis pushing for the equalizer. Thistle's lack of subs was starting to tell as the game opened up more and Nellis applied more and more pressure on the Thistle defense. Seto Mardirossian had an excellent opportunity to put the game away with a brilliant individual effort as he ran through the Nellis defense. His shot was pushed wide by the keeper to keep Nellis in the game. Time was running out as Nellis had one last chance from a corner. The ball was driven in hard and low, skipping past at least three defenders, only for the Nellis player to lift the ball over the crossbar. A good performance by Thistle seeing as a number of the regular team had decided to go and see the NASCAR race. Final score 2-1.

02/08/09 Partick Thistle 4 Capriotti's 1. Thistle got back to winning ways with a  very good all round performance against a physical Capriotti's side. Thistle took the lead early as a good run down the right flank by David Cluer found Martin Kenny open in the area. Martin hammered the ball off the defender to score. Thistle's defense were having a lot better game, keeping the Capriotti's forwards at bay with the offside trap. Capriotti's spread the ball out wide and penetrated the right flank of Thistle. A couple of neat passes later and Capriotti's had equalized. Thistle didn't let that get them down as they responded with a well taken goal by Seto Mardirossian. Half time 2-1. The second half was equally contested until Seto Mardirossian dribbled the ball past two defenders and set himself up for a shot on goal. Before the goal keeper had chance to set himself up he was picking the ball out of the back of the net. Seto had a chance for his hat trick, as a pin point cross from David Cluer found the head of Seto, who directed his header off the crossbar. Martin Kenny got back into the action with another well taken goal to make it 4-1. With that goal coach Billy Smith brought on the reserves to finish off the game. Full time 4-1.

01/25/09 Partick Thistle 3 Brewery 4. Thistle suffered only their third loss of the season as Brewery put the Thistle defense to the sword. Defensive errors early in the game proved too costly as Thistle were always trying to get back in the game. Brewery took a two goal advantage before Seto Mardirossian scored a brace of goals to make it 2-2 at the half. Thistle were put under pressure almost immediately in the second half. Once again the Thistle defense couldn't keep things tight as Brewery capitalized on some poor defending. Thistle were once again down by two. This time it would be to late to mount a comeback as Thistle could only manage a consolation goal by Josh to make the final score 4-3.

01/11/09 Partick Thistle 5 Eastern F.C. 1. Eastern started the game with a few players short. It was Thistle though who found it hard to cope with the advantage as it took them out of their normal game plan. It was a frustrating 20 minute spell for Thistle as attack after attack broke down. It was as though they got in each others way. It got worst for Thistle as the one attack Eastern had, they manage to score. Coach Billy Smith was going frantic on the sidelines, shouting every Scottish obscenity known to man. Finally Thistle got the goal from a set piece as Peter Stubbard came crashing into the box and headed home. That goal calmed a few nerves as moments later Seto Mardirossian opened up his account as David Cluer took the ball to the dead ball line and pulled it back to the foot of Seto. Thistle started to take control of the game as Eastern started to tire from the constant pressure. Seto scored his second just before the end of the first half to make it 3-1. Eastern started the second half with one more player, unfortunately it was Thistle who made most of the chances. Seto got his hat-trick to put the game out of reach. Finally coach Billy Smith was satisfied. That didn't stop Seto as he rounded the keeper to cheekily back heeled it in for his fourth. Final score 5-1.

01/04/09 Partick Thistle 3 Stoke City 0. The first game of the New Year and as always Stoke will be a good test to get rid of the hangovers. Both teams were a little rusty as the ball was having a hard time getting to the feet of the forwards. Thistle were creating the better of the chances. It looked as though it was going into half time in a stalemate but, for a moment of brilliance from Seto Mardirossian, who dribbled through the Stoke defense and slotted the ball under the body of the keeper. Half time 1-0. Stoke started the second half strong forcing Thistle to defend frantically. After ten minutes they settled down and began to regain their composure. Thistle started to spread the ball out wide, which created a gap for Seto Mardirossian to line up his shot on his favored right foot. The Stoke keeper had no chance to react and Seto scored his second goal of the game. Stoke kept up the pressure to get back into the game, only to open themselves up for the counter. Ethan Corsell broke away out of defense and took the ball the full length of the pitch. He pulled the ball back to George Kiss who unselfishly set up Carlos Burger to tap in. That goal finished off Stoke as the final score ended up 3-0 in favor of Thistle.

12/21/08 Partick Thistle 4 Preston N.E. Preston have a lot stronger squad from when the last time the two sides met. It was a lot tighter game as Preston had a couple of good chances. Chris Schork, the Thistle keeper made a couple of great saves to keep Thistle in the game. Thistle were awarded a free kick outside the box. Carlos Burger stepped up and slotted the ball into the back of the net to put Thistle ahead. Half time 1-0. Thistle came out strong in the second half as the game opened up. Seto Mardirossian shook off last weeks disappointments with a well taken goal to extend Thistle's lead. Seto had a hand in Thistle's third goal as he hit the under side of the cross bar with Ethan Corsell finishing off. Preston had no answer to what Thistle through at them. Thistle put the game out of reach as Laslo Weyland scored a terrific goal to make a final score of 4-0. A well deserved victory to round of another year. Everyone have a great holiday season and we will back next year to win some more trophies.

12/14/08 Partick Thistle 0 Premier 1. Thistle's chance of making up ground on Premier were thwarted today as Premier got the only goal of the game to take the spoils and put a six point gap in the table. It was an excellent game that was decided on one defensive error as both side made some great chances. Premier being the younger and a lot quicker team always gave Thistle trouble on the counter attack. It was Thistle though who squandered numerous chances in front of goal. Thistle's only chance of catching Premier now is to win their remaining games and for Premier to drop some points. Final score 0-1.

12/07/08 Partick Thistle 3(7) Capriotti's 0(0). Unfortunately today's game was forfeited by Capriotti's as they couldn't field a full squad before kick off. We did manage a scrimmage with the guys that did show up with a loan of four of Thistle's players. Thistle being the more organized of the two teams dominated possession in the midfield. It didn't take long before Thistle strung together some passes and broke down the Capriotti's defense. Seto Mardirossian scoring Thistle's first. It wasn't long before Seto had another and minutes later he had his hat trick. Carlos Burger finished off the first half with a chip over the Capriotti's keeper to make 4-0 at the half. A couple more players turned up for Capriotti's but it was the same story as Thistle enjoyed most of the ball. Paul Phillips making is debut for Thistle came on and with the first touch of the ball he put it in the back of the net. Capriotti's had a couple of good chances to get on the scored board. It was Thistle though that added to their tally as Seto Mardirossian scored his fourth and Laslo Weyland squeezed one under the keeper to make the final score 7-0.

11/23/08 Partick Thistle 3 Nellis 0. Thistle didn't take long to get into this game as they played with a lot more confidence. Thistle's speed up front was giving Nellis a lot of trouble. Thistle constantly got in behind the Nellis defense and within five minutes they opened the scoring. Seto Mardirossian dribbled around the Nellis back line and when he got the ball onto his favored right foot, it was all over and Thistle were up 1-0. Ten minutes later it was Juan's turn to do a spot of dribbling as he also rounded the keeper. At 2-0 Thistle were in command and dictated the tempo of the game. Nellis came out strong in the second half. If not for the goal tending of Thistle keeper Chris Schork, Nellis could of been right back in it. Thistle pushed for the third goal as Seto was denied by the left post. Thistle finally got the game ending goal as Seto and Juan strung together some good work in the area to give an on rushing Henry his first goal for the team. Final score 3-0.

11/16/08 Partick Thistle 4 Brewery 2. A new look Brewery team came out strong as Thistle took twenty minutes to wake up and get into this game. Thistle didn't start getting into it until a strike from nowhere from Martin Kenny  just outside the box to made it 1-0. That goal relieved some pressure from the Thistle players as they started passing the ball around with more confidence. Laslo Weyland had a goal disallowed for offside, but he wasn't deterred as he broke down the right flank on the next play and delivered a perfect cross to the head of Seto Mardirossian. That goal could go down as one of Seto's top ten goals as we wait with baited breath to see the replays on ESPN. Thistle didn't relax there as they poured on the pressure to a stunned Brewery team. Thistle continued to move the ball wide, spreading the Brewery defense with every possession. David Cluer came up with Thistle's third goal as the Brewery keeper couldn't hold onto his shot on goal. Half time 3-0. Thistle continued were they left off. 15 minutes in and David Cluer added his second of the game. That goal should of finished off the game, but Brewery were having nothing of it as Thistle left gaps in the midfield. It seemed as though everyone was trying to get on the score sheet and forgot about there own duties. A mix up in defense from Thistle and Brewery got one back. Brewery were now inspired and forced Thistle into numerous errors. Thistle should of been coasting home to the final whistle. Brewery scored again giving coach Billy Smith heart palpitations. Thistle finally calmed down and tightened  up the back line and got the victory and the three points. Final score 4-2.

11/09/08 Partick Thistle 6 Preston N.E. 0. The last time we played it was for fun and a run out. This time the game was for real. Both teams were lacking in numbers. It was going to be a long day without any subs. Thistle started off brightly with some good movement in midfield. The wet surface was causing havoc to both teams as the ball skidded along the artificial grass. 15 minutes in and Juan beat the offside trap to open up his account. Thistle couldn't capitalize on their lead as Preston N.E. got more into the game as they put some pressure on the Thistle defense. A counter attack from Thistle, saw Seto Mardirossian finish  to make it 2-0. Thistle weren't done there. Juan and Carlos Burger  interchanged with some good passing to give Carlos an open shot with only the keeper to beat. Half time 3-0. Thistle continued were they left off and within minutes of the restart Juan had scored his second. Preston were never a threat on the Thistle goal as they missed the option of former Thistle player Oliver Smith. A goal mouth scramble gave Martin Kenny his first goal of the season to make it 5-0. The goal of the game though came from a moment of brilliance as Juan dribbled through the entire Preston defense, rounding the keeper, to slot the ball home for his hat-trick. Final score 6-0.

10/26/08 Partick Thistle 4 Preston N.E. 5. Thistle entertained Preston N.E. in a friendly which brought together some old members of the Thistle squad. With no referees Thistle's offside trap was totally ineffective. It made it a free for all for the forwards but the goalkeepers were not amused. Goals were plentiful as both sides took advantage. A lot of squad players got a run out as most of the regulars decided to take a week off and spend a Sunday morning with their families.

10/19/08 Partick Thistle 2 Nellis 0. A good turn out today gave coach Billy Smith plenty of options. Nellis are a much improved team with the acquisition of some new players. Thistle applying most of the pressure, as the speed of the front two were causing havoc with the Nellis back line. After a few near misses Laslo Weyland broke down the left flank, crossing the ball into the box to find the boot of Brian Grisham. Thistle deserved their one goal lead but knew that they would have to score again to put Nellis away. Half time 1-0. Nellis came out strong in the second half and caused a mistake in the Thistle back four as they broke through. The shot fortunately for Thistle hit the woodwork. Thistle escaped one there. Thistle pushed for the second goal, mounting more and more pressure on the Nellis goal. A through ball to Seto Mardirossian saw him round the Nellis defense and hammer the ball past the Nellis keeper. That took the sting out of Nellis as their heads dropped and Thistle coasted the rest of the game for a final score of 2-0.

10/12/08 Partick Thistle 1 Premier 4. A rough start to the new season, playing against probably one of the top contenders for the league title. It didn't take long before the youth and speed of Premier broke through the defense of Thistle. A well  organized Premier team that have some quality players, dissected Thistle and were soon up 2-0. It wasn't the game plan that we prepared as we now had to open up and push forward. Thistle started to show some promise as they settled down. Another counter attack from Premier saw them add to their tally and go in at the half 3-0. After the break Thistle came out the stronger of the two teams and produced some magnificent football. Some good passing down the right flank, spread the Premier defense. A great cross from new boy Juan found the onrushing Seto Mardirossian to open his account for the year. Thistle looked the better of the two sides in the second half and dominated the possession. As the game went on though match fitness came into play. The constant pushing forward to add to their total took its toll as Premier secured the game to make a full time score of 4-1. Time for a nice pint of Boddingtons to drown our sorrows. Unfortunately the opposing team couldn't show up to celebrate as they were all under 21.

10/05/08 Partick Thistle 2 Stoke City 1. The first friendly of the season at the leagues new location of Henderson International in Anthem. This year we will playing on artificial grass, on a widened American football field. Sounds very nice but make sure you apply plenty of Vaseline. We would also like to mention our new sponsors "Fados Irish Pub" who will be taping the games and replaying  them in the bar after the games. So make sure you stop off on the way home for a refreshing pint and some good food. A few changes in personnel as four of our past players have formed their own team. We wish them luck with their new team "Preston N.E." and look forward to doing battle against them. We did pick up a few new players for the new campaign and of course we welcome back all the regulars that have stuck with the team.

Las Vegas Premier Division 1 2007/08

06/08/08 Partick Thistle 1 Stoke City 0. Thistle are League Cup Winners, beating Stoke City in a very entertaining final. For most part of the game Thistle pushed forward and but for a couple of great saves from the Stoke keeper they couldn't get on the score sheet. Oliver Smith had a couple of chances to open up his account. He wasn't to be denied though as he broke away, rounded the defense and slotted the ball past the keeper. 1-0 half time. Stoke gave everything they had in the second half as they applied constant pressure. Thistle looked as though they were showing some nerves as the memories of last weeks last minute defeat were haunting them. A few scrambling moments but the Thistle defense held out to maintain their slender lead to lift the William Smith Memorial Trophy.

06/01/08 Partick Thistle 1 Stella 2. Thistle began the game applying most of the pressure on the Stella defense. The finishing touch though was not there. Thistle forced another corner and this time David Cluer got the delivery right on target as Carlos Burger rose above everyone else to head the ball into the back of the net. Thistle's confidence grew as Stella could not penetrate the Thistle back line. On a routine dead ball, the ball  was not controlled and landed in the path of the Stella striker, who darted through the middle of the defense to equalize. Half time 1-1. Stella started the second half with the momentum as Thistle were totally disorganized. Chris Schork was called into action on numerous occasions to save Thistle. A goal mouth scrabble found Chris fall to the ground as he went for the ball. The Stella forward rounded the keeper and sent the ball towards the Thistle net. It ricocheted off one defender onto the arm of an unknowing Matt Shelling. The penalty was given and Matt was shown the red card. Chris Schork came up with another spectacular save to keep the score at 1-1. Thistle down to ten men and it was going to be an up hill battle for the next 30 minutes. Thistle tried to reorganize but Stella kept up the pressure. Thistle were having a hard time clearing the ball past the midfield and consequently were giving the ball back to Stella. Thistle were tiring but looked as though they were going to hold on to force penalty kicks. The dying seconds of the game Stella produced one final attack. With the swing of his left foot, the Stella forward put the ball past Chris Schork to end Thistle hopes of a cup double. Final score 2-1. Stella deserved the victory as Thistle never really recovered from going a man down. Man of the Match for Thistle as to go once again to Chris Schork for keeping Thistle in the game.

05/18/08 Partick Thistle 1(9) Stella 1(8). Another semi final, this time for the league cup. Another close game with both defenses not letting much get past them. Thistle had a few good opportunities to open up the scoring but, the pace of the Stella forwards was causing the Thistle defense not much chance to deliver any meaningful balls to the front two of Thistle. A good ten minute spell for Thistle and finally from a corner kick, the ball was headed down by Celso Bordinhao. After a goal mouth scramble Carlos Burger managed to deflect the ball off the Stella defender for the opening goal. Half time 1-0. The game went back and forth in the second half but, as Thistle legs began to tire, Stella began to take control of the midfield and started creating some better chances. A bad defensive error from the Thistle defense gifted the Stella forward with an easy equalizer. Both teams pushed for the winning goal and with one last corner kick  Thistle looked to have delivered the perfect ball to the head of Mark Collingbourne, only for one of his own players to knock him off the ball. The game ended 1-1 and now as it was last week it goes to a penalty shoot out. The first five players from each team were successful from the spot. Now it was sudden death. Thistle missed the next penalty, it was now up to Chris Schork to keep Thistle in contention. A brilliant save and the contest was still up for grabs. Thistle continued to put the ball into the back of the net but, Stella did likewise. One more opportunity for Stella to win but, Chris Shork comes up trumps again. Every player had been used and it was now the turn of each goal keeper. Chris stepped up and coolly slotted the ball into the top right. It was now the turn of the Stella keeper and it was Chris again picking the right direction to give Thistle the win and a place in the league cup final.

05/11/08 Partick Thistle 1(5) Premier 1(4). Semi Finals of the Final Four Cup and if it is half the game that the friendly game a few weeks a go was then it should be a cracker. Thistle fielded a mixed line up in the back four as Mark Collingbourne move into goal. Thistle kept it tight in the midfield not giving Premier much time on the ball to set free their quicker forwards. With Seto and Oliver up front, Premiers defense were hesitant about moving forward. As the game progressed Thistle were having the better of the chances. A ball out wide to Laslo Weyland beat the Premier defense. He crossed the ball into the box as Oliver Smith volleyed home to make it 1-0. Thistle continued to look the better side as the Thistle defense broke down everything that was thrown at them. Half time 1-0. Premier came out in the second half and pushed for the equalizer. The Thistle defense stood firm as Premier applied more and more pressure. Premier finally broke through and tied up the game. Thistle went back on the offensive and were awarded a free kick just outside the box. The ensuing free kick came off the post as the keeper was completely beaten. Full time arrived and it was a stalemate at 1-1. Next came penalties and like England, Thistle also don't have a great record. In fact Thistle keeper Mark Collingbourne was 0 and 15 for penalty saves. Premier was the first to take one, Mark dove to the left and put in a miraculous save. That save prove costly for Premier as Thistle went on to score all five of their penalties to secure a 5-4 penalty shoot out victory.

05/04/08 Partick Thistle 4 Stoke City 1. Thistle continued their great form with a comfortable victory over Stoke City.

04/20/08 Partick Thistle 5 Premier 3. Thistle put in the performance of the season to beat a lot younger and fitter Premier side. Even though it was a mid season friendly Thistle showed that they can still compete when they have a full compliment of players at coach Billy Smith's disposal.

04/13/08 Partick Thistle 1 Big Innings 0. Big Innings gave Thistle everything they had and made Thistle work hard for this victory.

04/06/08 Partick Thistle 3 Sin City Utd 0. Thistle started the second half of the season the way they finished the first with a convincing victory over Sin City Utd.

03/09/08 Partick Thistle 1 Aston Villa 0. Thistle kept up the good perform with another great performance against Aston Villa. A game that went from end to end with the only goal coming in the first half as Thistle went up 1-0. Aston Villa chased the equalizer but Thistle held on to win a valuable three points to consolidate a top three finish.

03/02/08 Partick Thistle 2 Stoke City 0. Another top of the table clash, with a fight for third. Thistle coming off a great result last weekend looking to keep the form against Stoke City. A closely contested first twenty minutes as both sides trying to counter each other. Thistle were making some good ground down the right flank as David Cluer was sending in some good crosses into the box. After a number of attempts he managed to find the boot of Celso Bordinhao who side footed Thistle into the lead. Stoke had a chance to equalize but for a goal line clearance by Mark Collingbourne. Half time 1-0. Thistle had the wind in the second half but it was having a negative effect on some of the crosses as they were not finding the mark. Stoke continued to push for the equalizer. Thistle on the counter attack freed up Seto Mardirossian who rounded the keeper to make it 2-0. Seto had another chance cleared off the line moments later. Stoke pushed forward but the Thistle defense was holding up to everything Stoke through at them. Another great performance from Thistle with the final score 2-0.

02/24/08 Partick Thistle 3 Stella 1. After a two week break Thistle were back in action against league leaders Stella. Usually Thistle come back sluggish after a lay off but not this time as Thistle constantly pressured the Stella midfield which prevented them to build any momentum. Thistle continued to hurry Stella into making poor decisions and a break down in play in the midfield gave Laslo Weyland the opportunity to run at the defense down the left flank. Everyone expecting Laslo to pass the ball but he took it on himself to hammer the ball into the net. Half time 1-0. An excellent half by Thistle who played together as a whole team. Thistle maintained the pressure in the second half and held up to whatever Stella through at them. Mark Collingbourne bombed  the outlet to Oliver Smith who brought it down and volleyed it over the keeper to make it 2-0. Stella upped the tempo as Thistle began to tire. Stella finding more gaps. A quick throw in caught Thistle off guard as they rounded the Thistle defense.  The Stella forward was brought down in the penalty area. Mark Collingbourne came up with a great save from the penalty. Stella kept up the pressure and were awarded a free kick at the edge of the box. An excellently taken free kick looked as though Mark Collingbourne had it covered but as he came down the ball squirmed away for the on rushing Stella forward to poke it into the goal. 2-1 and Stella were looking more and more dangerous. Laslo Weyland broke free down the middle and as he rounded the keeper, he was brought down. Oliver Smith stepped up and coolly put the game out of reach for the final score of 3-1.

02/03/08 Partick Thistle 3 Brewery 4. Thistle missing their main strikers knew they were in for a long day as Brewery always put up a stern defense against them. Thistle pushing for the opening goal, squandered a few good chances. It was Brewery though with their first attack of the game who opened the scoring from a well taken free kick that found stand in goal keeper Matt Shelling flat footed. Half time 1-0. Thistle continued push forward for the equalizer but couldn't finish off. Thistle were becoming frustrated as another attack broke down and a quick release from the Brewery keeper caught the Thistle defense on their back foot. Brewery capitalizing to make it 2-0. Not long after that another counter attack from Brewery and the game looked out of reach at 3-0. Thistle finally got on the score board as Mark Collingbourne received a pass from Celso Bordinhao to hammer the ball home. Thistle were inspired by that goal. The very next corner Mark Collingbourne got his head on the ball to make it 3-2. Thistle were finally getting into some rhythm. With two minute to go the game was all square as Martin Kenny equalized. Momentum was all going Thistle's way. Thistle pushed forward for the winner but an errant pass inside from Billy Smith gave Brewery another counter attack. With everyone pushing forward, the Brewery forward rounded the keeper for the winner. Final score 3-4.

01/20/08 Partick Thistle 3 Big Innings 0. A make shift team turn up with a lot of regulars staying home to watch the NFL playoffs, Big Innings fielded only nine players. Thistle maintained most of the possession and numerous chances to score. Martin Kenny was the first to get on the score sheet with a second goal from Oliver Smith moments later. Eric Arlt, playing in goal for Big Innings made some nice stops to deny Thistle from extending their lead. Half time 2-0. Thistle played some good football, getting the ball out to the wings, spreading the Big Innings defense. The only time Big Innings got possession of the ball was after an errant pass. Thistle had chance after chance to score. Even Billy Smith, who resembled a young Archie Gemmill, managed to hit the bar and then the post. Martin Kenny made the final score 3-0.

01/13/08 Partick Thistle 4 Atlas 0. Thistle got back to winning ways with a comfortable 4-0 win over Atlas. Thistle's first attack resulted in a goal as Mun dribbled through the Atlas defense, after having his shot blocked the ball found an open Oliver Smith, who buried the ball into the back of the net. Thistle should of been way ahead as they squandered chance after chance to put the game out of reach. Half time 1-0. Atlas were not out of it as they pressed forward for the equalizer. Ten minutes into the second Thistle moved the ball well in the midfield as Mun slotted the ball past two Atlas defenders to free Oliver Smith, who rounded the keeper to make it 2-0. Thistle started to spread the ball wide as Laslo Weyland took the ball down the right. He had good cause for a penalty as the keeper brought him down in the box but Laslo managed to get the ball to Eric Arlt who placed the ball in the left corner of the goal. Thistle weren't done as Oliver Smith completed his hat trick from the counter attack. A good start for the new year and a good performance all round.

12/16/07 Partick Thistle 0 Aston Villa 2. Thistle were full of confidence after last weeks result. Aston Villa though were going to have nothing of it as they out muscled and pressured every ball. Thistle's midfield were unable to deliver anything decent to the feet of the Thistle forwards. They were getting caught in possession and forced into making hurried passes. Against the run of play Aston Villa crossed the ball into the area were the Thistle keeper misjudged the flight of the ball. After a goal mouth scrabble, thistle were picking the ball out of the back of the net. Half time 1-0 to Villa. Thistle never gave in though  as they pushed forward for the equalizer. They thought that their chance had come as Oliver Smith was brought down in the area. The penalty was never awarded. That kind of change the complexion of the game as Thistle were unable to break through the Villa defense. As Thistle pushed forward they were caught out on the counter attack as Villa made it 2-0. This was just a game were the rub of the green didn't go Thistle's way. A disappointing result after last week. Hopefully next year will be more fruitful and we start getting better turn outs for the games. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.

12/09/07 Partick Thistle 3 Stoke City 0. After a very poor performance the week before, Thistle came out with the goods this weekend with a resounding victory over table toppers Stoke City. It was a close contest in the first half were both teams had their opportunities. It was Thistle though who cashed in on a brilliant header from Ben Winters to put Thistle up 1-0 at the half. Laslo Weyland and Seto Mardirossian were causing all sorts of problems for the Stoke defense. Laslo hit the post twice. It was Seto Mardirossian with a brace of goals in the second half that put the game out of reach. A well deserved victory and one of Thistle's best of the year. Final score 3-0.

12/02/07 Partick Thistle 0 Stella 5. A season that promised everything was turned upside down with another poor attendance. Only 9 players showed up from a squad of 26, against a team that Thistle used to compete with. Stella ran Thistle off the park with some good combination play from the midfield. It didn't take long before they broke the make shift Thistle defense. With no sight of more players showing up late, coaches Billy Smith and Phil Holliday suited up and took to the field. I know all the missing players were not doing the Las Vegas Marathon today. Thistle's defense fought bravely as Stella sent wave after wave of attacks. It was to no avail though as Eric Arlt, standing in as goal keeper, anticipating a line drive found himself off the line for the Stella forward to cleverly lob the ball over his head. Half time 2-0. The second half didn't look too promising as most of the Thistle team were limping around. A heartfelt pep talk from Ethan Corsell at the half gave Thistle a little fight in the second half. Thistle playing some better football and creating a few chances. The fight back only lasted 15 minutes though as Stella counter attacked to make it 3-0. Thistle's heads fell and it was soon 4-0 to Stella. That took the fight out of a dilapidated Thistle team as they had no answer to the well organized Stella team. To had insult to injury Stella added another to make the final score 5-0. I would like to congratulate the players that showed up and contributed but, if we are to make a run at making the play offs we need a little more commitment from everyone involved in the team.

11/18/07 Partick Thistle 3 Brewery 3. A lackluster performance by Thistle mainly due to the poor showing, only half the squad turned up for the game. A game in which Thistle had their chances to pick up three points and ended up lucky to get the draw. Thistle started the game well with some good combination play between Celso Bordinhao and Seto Mardirossian, the latter picking up a through ball from Celso to give Thistle the lead. Brewery didn't take long to level the score as they were running rampant through the make shift Thistle midfield. A nice pass beat the Thistle defense as they were looking for offside to equalize. Half time 1-1. Thistle tried to reorganize the midfield for the second half but, even with the extra man in the middle, they couldn't prevent Brewery from threading the ball through the offside trap to make it 2-1. Thistle pressed to get the equalizer and missed on a couple of great opportunities. Thistle finally forced a corner. The ball sailed over the box and found Seto Mardirossian at the back of the area to strike it home. Thistle played with a little more conviction and with five minutes left they were able to go ahead 3-2 as Celso Bordinhao put Ethan Corsell through to score. Thistle made a couple of changes to tighten up the midfield but, it was to no avail as Brewery continued to thread the ball through five defenders to tie the game up at 3-3. If Thistle are to succeed in this league they must get a full compliment of players showing up every week as consistency is a mainstay of a winning team.

11/11/07 Partick Thistle 0 Premier 2. A closely contested game with Thistle keeping the younger and fitter Premier side at bay. It wasn't until the stroke of half time that Premier broke the ice to go ahead 1-0. Thistle had their chances in the second half but for some poor finishing they couldn't capitalize.  Once again Premier were able to put their chances away and Thistle suffered their first defeat of the season. Final score 2-0.

11/04/07 Partick Thistle 9 Sin City Utd. 0. Thistle came out and controlled the midfield and with some good passing down the flanks they were soon causing problems for the Sin City defense. Seto Mardirossian got away down the left  crossing the ball across the face of the goal for an on rushing David Cluer to tap the ball in to open up Thistle's account. Thistle kept up the pressure and were awarded a penalty as a Sin City defender handled the ball on the line. Martin Kenny stepped up and slotted the ball home with his left to make it 2-0. Sin City's attacks were mostly thwarted by the Thistle offside trap, which was frustrating the Sin City forwards. Thistle continued to use both flanks, spreading out the Sin City defense. A cross from the right found the head of Martin Kenny as he claimed his second of the game. Five minutes later Laslo Weyland broke down the right and his attempt at crossing the ball found the Sin City keeper off his line for it to sail over his head to make it 4-0. Even Laslo was shocked at that one. Half time 4-0. Thistle kept up the pressure in the second half. It didn't take long before Thistle added to their score line as David Cluer returned the favor to Seto Mardirossian as he crossed the ball into the box to find Seto open. Ten minutes in and some great individual skill from Celso Bordinhao saw him dribble the ball past three defenders and the goal keeper to get the samba music going. At 6-0 the floodgates opened as Thistle scored at will. A nice back heel from Ed Slater opened up Billy Maphies to make it 7-0. Eric Arlt made it 8 and not to be denied Oliver Smith thundered one home to make the final score 9-0. A very good performance which saw eight different Thistle players scoring. For those who didn't get on the score sheet, try harder.

10/21/07 Partick Thistle 3 Nellis 0. A well balanced first half. Thistle moving the ball around and creating a few good chances but unfortunately the finish wasn't there. It was good to see Laslo Weyland back in action after breaking a bone in his foot during the pre season. He came back with new boots, new enthusiasm but the same old shooting ability. The Nellis goal keeper did make a couple of good saves though. Thistle finally broke down the Nellis defense with a well taken corner kick that found the head of new guy Ryan Purtell. Half time 1-0. Thistle didn't take long to double their lead in the second as Martin Kenny volleyed home to make it 2-0. Thistle started to find a lot of gaps in the Nellis defense as Oliver Smith broke through to find himself one on one with the Nellis keeper. At 3-0 Thistle were in total control of the game and pushed forward for more goals. The chances came thick and fast with a couple of notable misses from the likes of Billy Smith and Ethan Corsell. Hopefully we will all have our scoring boots for the next game. Final score 3-0.

10/14/07 Partick Thistle 9 (3) Atlas 0 (0). After a nice break for the summer it was that time of year again to polish the boots (or buy some nice new white shinny ones) and show us what you've got. It should be a very competitive season as John Kennedy as changed the format a little so everyone as a chance to win the spoils at the end of the year. Thistle started the season well before the kick off as Atlas had to forfeit the game due to a lack of players. Having been awarded a 3-0 victory, Thistle made up the numbers so we could at least get a game in. After twenty minutes of play Atlas gave Thistle a game and everyone was wondering why they even forfeited. Chances were going each way with both keepers coming up with some good saves. Thistle calmed down and started to play some good football. Seto Mardirossian broke down the right and found the head of Celso Bordinhao to open up the scoring. Atlas didn't give in and they kept pushing for the equalizer. Half time 1-0. After a little pep talk from coach Billy Smith, warning his players that if they didn't get there acts together he was going to put his boots on, Thistle came out with a little more determination. Thistles' midfield started to thread the ball in between the Atlas defenders for the forwards to run on to instead of giving them high balls to contend with. This was paying dividends as Mark Collingbourne came from no were as Carlos Berger played the ball through for Mark to race through the defense. Mark rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home, then he proceeded to collapse on the field from exhaustion and signal for a sub. It must have been those nice white shinny boots. After that Atlas defense was no longer in the game as the flood gates opened. Two goals from Seto Mardirossian, two from Martin Kenny, another from Celso, Oliver getting one and after saying he as never scored a goal for Thistle, Ed puts one away to make the final score 9-0. Thistle showed a lot of promise today and played a lot of good football. Hopefully they can keep it up and keep the results coming there way. Not to end on a sad note but a minutes silence was held in between games today in the memory of one of Las Vegas's notable football legends. Victor Arbalaez passed away last Tuesday doing what he loved playing football.

Las Vegas Premier Division 1 2006/07

07/01/07  Partick Thistle 5 Sin City Utd 1. Thistle playing back to back games against a team wearing the colors of Glasgow Celtic, having played the Celtic Supporters Club on Saturday. Another hot day but that didn't slow down the pace as both sides tried to get the early lead. Thistle's defense sticking to the offside trap and being very effective with it. Thistle broke the deadlock first as an excellent cross from David Cluer on the right, fell into the path of Seto Mardirossian who volleyed the ball against the inside of the post and score. Half time 1-0. Thistle must have been sun bathing at half time as Sin City took advantage of them napping to equalize. Thistle regained the lead as they applied more pressure. Some good individual play from Carlos Berger, as he dribbled into the penalty area to set up Mick Maguire, who hammered the ball against the post for it to come back into the path of David Cluer, who scored from close range. Moments after the goal Ed Slater was sent off for his second book able offense. Thistle were now down to ten men. Sin City tried to take advantage but as they pushed forward they lost the ball in midfield to Seto Mardirossian. Seto dribbled the ball through the defense and slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 3-1. That was the turning point of the game as Sin City had nothing left. Thistle added two more goals to their tally as Eric Arlt and Aaron Pottorff (still wearing those lucky socks) both netted to make the final score 5-1.

06/24/07  Partick Thistle 4 Atlas 1. The matched started with a few regulars missing due to the invasion of 10,000 Brits that were in Vegas for the Ricky Hatton fight. Even Coach Billy Smith missed a rare game as he was recovering from a major hangover. The game went on and after the initial 15 minutes Thistle settled down and started to string together some worth while attacks. Seto Mardirossian broke the Atlas line of defense and coolly slotted the ball passed the Atlas keeper for the opening score. Not long after that Laslo Weyland, who was causing havoc down the left flank, beat the defense and found himself one on one with the keeper. The crowd were in awe as he chipped over the keeper to make it 2-0. Atlas struck back straight away as the ball was given away in the midfield and Thistle failed to clear the ball away. Half time 2-1. Thistle were more composed in the second half as they now had the wind in their favor. They forced Atlas to chase the ball, resulting in some tired legs in the 105 degree temperatures. Thistle controlled the center of the park as Mun sent in a nice through ball to the on rushing Aaron Pottorff to round the keeper. Thistle were not done yet as Charlie pushed forward from defense and laid off a perfect ball for David Cluer who made it 4-1. Thistle had a few more chances to increase the score but some chances sailed over the bar. A good result as it keeps Thistle on top of the Summer League.

06/17/07  Partick Thistle 7 Nellis 2.Thistle made hard work of the first twenty minutes with a lot of missed timed passes and constantly being called offside. It wasn't until a set piece that found the head of Mark Collingbourne to open up Thistle's account. Five minutes later though it was Nellis who got the equalizer after another missed pass gave the ball away to one of Nellis's loan players, who shot the ball from a good 30 yards and surprised the Thistle goal keeper as it sailed over his head. Thistle kept pushing for the go ahead goal. Seto Mardirossian finally broke the offside trap as he ran through the defense and scored. Thistle extended their lead as Aaron Pottorff blasted home Thistle's third. Thistle looked to be in control as the half came to a close but, Nellis caught Thistle on the counter attack to bring the half time score to 3-2. The second half was probably one of the most complete games of football that Thistle have played in a long time as they pressured Nellis and only allowed them limited time on the ball. Thistle's dominance in possession started to take its toll as Nellis began to tire. Charlie took the ball from defense and followed the play as it developed, to break through the defense to score. Moments later it was another Hungarian in the form of Laslo Weyland who scored a brace of goals to make the score 6-2. Nellis had nothing left as Thistle bombarded the Nellis goal. If he wasn't for the heroics of the Nellis goal keeper, Thistle could of been in double figures. Thistle managed one last goal though as Seto Mardirossian broke down the left flank to cross a pin point ball to the head of Nick Mcguire. A great second half performance with the final score of 7-2.

06/10/07  Partick Thistle 5 Stoke City 2.

06/03/07  Partick Thistle 4 Brewery 0.

05/13/07  Partick Thistle 3 Sin City Utd. 3.

05/06/07  Partick Thistle 1 Stoke City 2. A tale of two halves as Thistle dominated the first half and looked comfortable enough to guarantee the points. A first half goal by David Cluer gave Thistle a dream start. As the second half started, Thistle left everything on the sideline as Stoke came out and punished Thistle for their errors in defense with two goals. Thistle came up too little too late as they ended the season with a 2-1 defeat.

04/29/07  Partick Thistle 1 Brewery 1. A disappointing performance by Thistle after going up 1-0 at the half to let Brewery back into the game and lose on penalties in the semi final of the league cup. Thistle once again missing a notable striker found it hard to put any pressure on the Brewery goal. Thistle dominate the possession and finally were rewarded when the Ivory Coast connection of Simba and Mun (Drogba and Kalou) put together some good touched for Mun to open up Thistle account. That's the way the first half finished with Thistle up 1-0. The second half was much the same as the first but Thistle couldn't capitalize on their chances. It was Brewery who counter attacked and scored on one of their few chances on goal. Thistle pushed everyone forward to get the winning goal as their was no extra time but, penalties were to decide the winner. Thistle squandered more chances and the game ended 1-1. To penalties it was, with Brewery going first. The best of five phase of penalties should have been won by Thistle as Brewery missed their penalty attempt. It wasn't to be though and now it was sudden death. Like England before them Thistle cracked under the pressure and went down 8-7 on penalties.

04/22/07  Partick Thistle 5 Atlas 1. Another beautiful day in the north of Las Vegas as the winds blew and the temperature drops. Surprisingly though this was the biggest turn out for a game all season. It would of been a perfect opportunity to get the camera out for a group photo as 21 players showed up. Well coach Billy Smith had his hands full calling the ref for "next sub" trying to keep everyone happy. Thistle took the mild hurricane in the first half with the intention to put the game out of harms reach. With their first corner someone finally hit the target for Mark Collingbourne to head home. Thistle were dominating possession. The ball came down the right flank and ended up in the path of David Cluer. Dave made no mistake this time as he hammered home his first goal for the team. (Pity his friends and family weren't their to witness it). With Thistle 2-0 up a guest appearance from Seto Mardirossian saw him do what he does best and make it 3-0 at the half. Atlas showed some promise in the second half as they now had the wind in their backs. Thistle were all over the place as some players were getting a little confused of what position they were supposed to be in. Atlas pulled a goal back as the crowd (mostly Thistle substitutes) sensed a come back. Ten minute later though Thistle exposed the right flank as Ethan Corsell extended Thistle's lead. The wind was causing trouble for both sides as passes were not hitting their respective targets. Thistle were awarded a free kick some 30 yards out. Carlos Burger against a strong wind, somehow kept the ball low enough to score Thistle's fifth and final goal. Full time 5-1.

4/15/07  Partick Thistle 1 Stonefish Utd 1. This game promised to be a tight game as the previous two games both ending 2-2. Thistle enjoyed most of the early possession but neither team really threatened enough to score. A seemingly harmless back pass to the Thistle keeper saw Chris Schork's attempted clearance hit the on rushing Stonefish forward on his back and end up in his own goal. Thistle had a couple of good chances to equalize but the first half ended with Stonefish 1-0 up. Thistle pushed more and more for the equalizer but, became more and more vulnerable to Stonefish on the counter attack. Chris Schork made amends for his earlier blunder by keeping Thistle in the game as he stopped Stonefish on a number of clear chances to put the game away. It wasn't until the final kick of the game when Thistle were awarded a free kick just  outside the penalty box. Kenny Cartledge stepped up to take it as Thistle sent in the cavalry in the shape of Mark Collingbourne to make some contact. Three Stonefish defenders followed Mark leaving John Crocker open at the back of the box to masterfully head the ball over the Stonefish keeper to bring the game level. Lots of missed opportunities from both sides, no need to mention names, you know who you are but, a fair result. Full time 1-1.

03/25/07  Partick Thistle 3 Sin City Utd. 0. Another early start for the first round of the playoffs. This time Sin City fielded a full compliment of players which in the first half held their own against a Thistle side that enjoyed most of the possession but never really challenged the Sin City goal. With 15 minutes to go Thistle changed the side up and with some good attacking play were awarded a corner. The corner was good and found the head of Matt Shelling who directed it towards goal. The ball was on its way in but to be stopped by the out stretched arm of a Sin City defender. The ensuing penalty was converted by Kenny Cartledge. That was the end of the first half 1-0. The second started much the same as the first but with Sin City pushing for the equalizer. Thistle once again were awarded a corner. Instead of the usual back post, Kenny Cartledge directed the ball to the near post for an on rushing Carlos Burger to slip it past the defender. Sin City had some excellent opportunities to get on the score board but for the heroics of the Thistle keeper, Chris Schork. Oliver Smith not being denied a chance to get on the scorers sheet broke away from two defenders and sailed one in from outside the box to make it 3-0. A scrappy game but a well contested game, seeing Thistle advance in the playoffs.

03/11/07  Partick Thistle 3 Sin City Utd. 0. Thistle were awarded the game as Sin City were unable to field a complete team. The earlier draws proved to be costly as Thistle finished as runners up to Stonefish Utd. It is now play off time and Thistle look forward to picking up the silverware.

02/18/07  Partick Thistle 6 Stoke City 1. Thistle took no chances this week as they applied the early pressure, as Stoke were still disorganized. Thistle were awarded a corner kick that Stoke were unable to clear as Carlos Burger poked the ball into the net for the games opener. Thistle's midfield were controlling most of the play, giving Stoke very little chance to penetrate the Thistle half. A long ball across the field found Laslo Weyland break down the left, he brought the ball to his favored right foot and buried it into the back of the net. Thistle maintained the pressure as David Cluer broke down the right flank from a through ball from Kenny Cartledge. The ball came across the face of the box as Eric Arlt dummied the ball for an on rushing Phil Holliday to get his left foot on the ball to score. Half time 3-0. A couple of early chances were lost in the beginning of the second half but, a mistake from the Stoke keeper gave Eric Arlt the opportunity to add to Thistle's score. Stoke took advantage of the wind and sent over some long balls over that were causing some concern for the Thistle defense. A miscommunication in the Thistle defense gave the ball away to Stoke who saw the Thistle keeper off his line. The Stoke player lobbed the ball over the keeper to make it 4-1. Thistle didn't take long to reply as a ball across the box found Laslo Weyland at the back post to score his second. One more break down the right saw Billy Smith latch onto a loose ball. Billy lobbed the ball over the Stoke defense were Kenny Cartledge finished off the game. A good all around performance from Thistle. Final score 6-1.

02/18/07  Partick Thistle 3 AFC Admirals 3. A game of two halves as Admirals came out firing as Thistle must of been out partying with all the rappers after the NBA All-Star game. The Admirals could of been up 4-0 if it wasn't for the woodwork but, they settled for two as they thought this game was going to be a walk in the park. The speed and size of the Admiral players caught Thistle by surprise as they scored two excellently executed goals. Thistle were arguing amongst themselves as nothing seemed to go right. Eventually they regained their composure as they began to control the ball and keep the pressure up. The pressure prevailed as Simba N-Dioye pulled one back before the half time whistle. Half time 2-1. Thistle pushed forward for the equalizer as the Admirals were happy to defend. Laslo Weyland broke free down the left flank and put through an excellent ball to Simba N-Dioye, who rounded the Admirals keeper to bring the scores level. Thistle were on a roll and applied more pressure as Oliver Smith got into the action and scored the go ahead goal. Thistle could of put the game away as his shot hit the crossbar. The Admirals opened up and caught Thistle spread out in the defense as they found one last attack. With what you could say was the last kick of the game they got the equalizer. Final score 3-3.

02/11/07  Partick Thistle 6 Silverbacks 0. Thistle opponent today was a team from the division above them. the Silverbacks so far though are having a hard time of it having won only two games. It was a typical day at Aviary Park as the wind seems to pick up as the game begins. Thistle opted to go against the wind in the first half. Keeping the ball low Thistle managed to penetrate the Silverbacks defense but couldn't get that finishing touch to get it past the Silverbacks keeper. It was pretty tough going against the wind but, Silverbacks were getting caught offside as they tried to foil the offside trap. Mid way through the half Oliver Smith opened up the scoring with a low drive to the right of the keeper. A few more chances went by as Thistle attacked from both wings. Half time 1-0. With the wind with Thistle in the second half, coach Billy Smith gave the green light to have a go from anywhere. Some good passing found Carlos Burger who did his impression of Ronaldinho by chipping the ball over the defender and hammering the ball into the back of the net. Silverbacks were stunned after that goal and so was the crowd. George Varhelyi set up he next goal as he opted to take a long throw in down the side line for Oliver Smith to run onto. He out paced the defender and slotted the ball home for Thistle third. The Silverbacks heads were dropping as more and more Thistle players were getting forward. Aaron Pottorff picked the ball up from 30 yards out, took one look up and sailed one in. The very next attack gave Thistle a corner. Thistle sent up their big guns for this one. Finally a corner with some direction and height on it found the head of Mark Collingbourne who scored his first goal of the season. Thistle were not done there as new signing Simba N-Dioye scored his first goal for Thistle to make the final score of 6-0.

01/28/07  Partick Thistle 3 Raza Utd. 1. Thistle produced a much better performance and were back to winning ways. The time start was detrimental to the amount of players showing up, as only two substitutes were available. Oliver Smith continued his remarkable ability this season to put the ball into the back of the net, as he opened up the scoring. Not long after that Eric Arlt scored his first goal of the season to make it two. Half time 2-0. Raza Utd came out strong in the second half and managed to pull a goal back. Thistle weren't finished though as Oliver Smith put away the game for a final score of 3-1.

01/21/07  Partick Thistle 1 Brewery 1. After a long lay off for the holidays, it was back to business at a new venue. The league as moved away from Summerlin and relocated to Aviary Park  in Aliante. It was a cold and blustery morning and both teams were rusty from the lack of games. Thistle found it tough going against the wind and couldn't find the finishing touch for the go ahead goal. It was Brewery though against the run of play who crossed the ball into the Thistle box. The ball drifted in the wind and caught the Thistle keeper by surprise as he tried to tip the ball over the bar. Unfortunately it dropped into is own net to give Brewery the lead. Half time 1-0 to Brewery. Thistle pushed forward for the equalizer as they had the wind. It looked as though it was going to be another frustrating day for the Thistle forwards as every through ball seemed to be too long. It wasn't until Oliver Smith took the ball at the edge of the Brewery penalty area, set himself up and slammed the ball into the net. Thistle kept up the pressure, only to be denied. Brewery had a couple of good chances on the counter attack. All in all, with the conditions a 1-1 tie was a fair result.

12/17/06  Partick Thistle 4 Atlas 0. After playing the top teams the past couple of weeks it was good to play a team were Thistle could concentrate on a more attacking formation. Having beaten Atlas in the second week of the season Thistle came out looking for the early goal. It didn't take long as George Varhelyi used his speed to break through and score. Moments later it was Oliver Smith opening up his account. Atlas were 2-0 down early and knew that they were up against some tough opposition. Just before half time Thistle scored their third with George Varhelyi completing his brace. Half time 3-0. The second half was much the same as the first with Thistle scoring an early goal from Oliver Smith. Thistle eased off, with only two substitutes showing up, coasting to the 4-0 victory.

12/10/06  Partick Thistle 2 Stonefish Utd. 2. The last time these two teams met, they played out to a 2-2 tie. Stonefish took the wind in the first half. It didn't take long, as their youth and speed up front dissected the Thistle defense to open up the scoring. The wind was causing havoc as Thistle couldn't get the ball to their forwards. Twenty minutes in though saw Thistle on the attack. With a great cross into the box, George Varhelyi headed the ball towards goal. It looked destined to go in but a Stonefish Utd. defender handled the ball preventing it from going into the net. The defender was sent off and Oliver Smith took the penalty and equalized. The game was pretty much even with the Stonefish forwards looking busy around the Thistle defense. A defensive error by Thistle giving the ball away, put Stonefish one on one with the keeper. The Stonefish forward cleverly chipped the ball over the keeper to make it 2-1 at the half.  Now Thistle had the wind on their side. Within five minutes of the second half Thistle got the break they needed. Oliver Smith got open and set up a shot on goal. Before the Stonefish keeper realized what had happened, he was picking the ball out of the back of the net. Thistle were getting more freedom and created more chances, which reflected in more shots on goal. A few missed opportunities by both teams towards the end and the game finished in a 2-2 draw.

12/03/06  Partick Thistle 2 Stoke City 1. A top of the table clash between two of the contenders for the league championship. Stoke are a strong physical team that put a lot of pressure on opposing teams. This promised to be a close contest. Thistle had the better of the play early on and squandered a lot of great chances with the Stoke keeper being in the right place at the right time. Stoke persistently were being caught offside which was disrupting their tempo. Half time 0-0. Thistle started strongly in the second but against the run of play Stoke had a rare attack as they countered down the right flank, crossing the ball over. Unfortunately it fell into the path of an onrushing Thistle defender (KT), who directed into his own goal. This opened up the game as Thistle had to push forward for the equalizer. It looked as though it was going to be one of those days of missed chances. It wasn't until 15 minutes from time did Thistle finally break free, with Oliver Smith getting the equalizer. Thistle didn't rest there as they went for the kill, as the constant pressure from Thistle was wearing on the Stoke defense. With five minutes to go Laslo Weyland pressured the Stoke defender into a mistake as he gave the ball away to an on rushing Oliver Smith, who completed his brace of goals. Thistle held on as they tightened up and secured a well deserved victory in a very entertaining game. Final score 2-1.

11/19/06  Partick Thistle 4 Sin City Utd. 0. Thistle had their team photo shoot before the game which brought out a full compliment of players. (maybe we should do one every week). Unlike last week coach Billy Smith was able to field three forwards. Within the first five minutes, playing the three forwards paid off as Oliver Smith was open on the edge of the box to open up the scoring. Sin City kept up the pressure but were consistently caught offside. Thistle counter attacked with the long ball into the forwards, missing on a couple of attacks. The rest of the half went back and forth with Thistle defending well. Half time 1-0. Sin City maintained the majority of the possession for the first twenty minutes of the second half but, couldn't find the finishing touch to open up the Thistle defense. Against the run of play Thistle strung together a good attack, with Oliver Smith doing some fancy dribbling and finally gaining enough control to hit the ball into the back of the net. Thistle began to relax a little more and created more and more opportunities on goal, only for the woodwork preventing them from going further ahead. On the thirtieth minute a rare mistake from the Sin City defense left George  Varhelyi open to run into the box and put the ball past the keeper to extend Thistle's lead to 3-0. One more counter attack and with a pin point cross from Kenny Cartledge, finding Laslo Weyland cutting across the field to tap hit past the keeper into an open net. That goal finished off Sin City with a final score of 4-0. A much better performance from Thistle with a much improved turn out.

11/12/06  Partick Thistle 1 AFC Admirals 2. Thistle started the game with no established forward due to either suspension, vacations or night club hangovers. This was to prove costly as Thistle throughout the game found it difficult to get that finishing touch. Thistle started well, as they attacked the right flank, missing a couple of good opportunities. Julio Agular broke well down the right flank, splitting the Admirals defense to hammer the ball home. The Admirals didn't fold though as they pressed the Thistle defense. A long throw caused problems and Thistle failed to clear the ball. Admirals took advantage and put away the equalizer. Thistle missed more and more chances. Some ill timed substitutions caused Thistle defense to be out of shape as Admirals broke through the middle and went ahead 2-1. Bad passing was the cause of Thistle's demise as they found themselves down 2-1 at the half.  Admirals came out with a lot of confidence as Thistle were totally disjointed. Thistle regained their composure and started to create a few more chances. As they pushed forward for the equalizer, Thistle became more vulnerable to the counter attack. The lack of a regular forward really effected Thistle's play, as wave after wave of attacks fell short. A bad performance by Thistle and a very spirited performance by AFC Admirals as they deserved the victory. Final score 2-1

11/05/06 Partick Thistle 4 Raza Utd. 0. A new team in the league but an opposition that Thistle beat comfortably in the pre season. Thistle wasted no time in putting pressure on the Raza defense and Oliver Smith opened up the scoring. Moments later it was Laslo Weyland scoring to put Thistle up 2-0. Raza Utd. were having trouble maintaining possession as Thistle went for the kill. Thistle's midfield were dominating as Kenny Cartledge scored Thistle's third. The half time whistle couldn't get there soon enough for Raza but Carlos Burger scored his first goal for Thistle to make it 4-0 at the half. The second half saw Thistle take the foot off the peddle as they cruised through the rest of the game. Raza resulted to petty fouls and an incident involving the Raza goal keeper and Oliver Smith resulted in both players being sent off. Final score 4-0.

10/22/06 Partick Thistle 5 Brewery 1. The past few meetings between these two teams have been closely contested and this one started no differently. Both defenses not letting anything go. It wasn't until five before half time until the deadlock was broken as Thistle managed to break through as Oliver Smith latched onto a pass from Kenny Cartledge to open up the scoring. Half time 1-0. The second half started much the same as the first with Brewery pushing forward to equalize. Another fast break from George Varhelyi, saw him run down the left flank from the half way line to slot the ball under the keeper to put Thistle up 2-0. Five minutes later it was 3-0 as a long ball from Joe Rohr found Oliver Smith who out paced the Brewery defense to score. Brewery's heads were dropping as the game was getting out of reach. Brewery's defense opened up again as Oliver Smith scored his second hat trick in two weeks to make it 4-0. Brewery managed to score a consolation goal as the Thistle defense slacked off. One more attack from Thistle as Oliver Smith was brought down just outside the box. Aaron Pottorff stepped up to take the free kick. He hit it hard and low and beat the keeper to make the final score 5-1. Another good performance from Thistle, showing great patience before breaking down the Brewery defense. -

10/15/06 Partick Thistle 5 Atlas 2. Atlas a new name in the league but with some familiar faces. Thistle started the game strong and put together some good touches in the middle of the park and opened up the scoring as Oliver Smith latched on to a through ball from Seto Mardirossian to score. The Atlas defense were looking pretty slow in the back four. Both teams were battling it out in the middle of the field but it was Thistle who squandered a couple of a good chances. Thistle were caught napping though as Atlas broke the offside trap and created a one and one with the Thistle keeper to equalize. Moments later it was 2-1 to Atlas as Thistle who were the better team for most of the first half were beaten by their own off side trap. Atlas took a 2-1 lead into the half. Thistle's first attack in the second half couldn't have ended better as Laslo Weyland broke down the left flank, pulled the ball back and with a pin point cross found Oliver Smith open to bring the game level. Moments later Oliver Smith broke free again and when it looked certain that he would score, the cross bar saved the day for the Atlas keeper. Atlas kept up the pressure and were awarded a free kick 20 yards out.  The free kick was straight at the Thistle keeper Chris Schork, who delivered a perfect throw to the feet of Oliver Smith, who completed his hat trick to put Thistle ahead once more. The game was end to end with some good play from both sides. Thistle took advantage of Atlas pushing forward as Oliver Smith counter attacked and saw the Atlas keeper off his line. He chipped the keeper who managed to get a hand on it, but to no avail as he picked the ball out of the back of the net. Thistle were creating havoc down the left flank with some good touches, Seto Mardirossian running off the ball to create open space for Oliver Smith who put the icing on the cake with his fifth. Final score 5-2. Apart from the two defensive lapses Thistle looked liked they could be a force for the title this year.

10/08/06 Partick Thistle 2 Stonefish Utd. 2. The first game of the new season and everyone full of expectations as Thistle are coming off a successful Summer League. A good showing for this game against one of Thistle's main contenders. Thistle applied most of the early pressure as both sides were feeling each other out. It was Matt Schelling though who opened the scoring, when he latched onto a loose ball and hammered the ball home. A good start for Thistle. Stonefish took awhile to settle down but when they did they managed to equalize. Thistle answered back though as Laslo Weyland broke away and chipped it over the keeper. Half Time 2-1 to Thistle. As the second half progressed Stonefish started to manipulate possession and Thistle's lack of match fitness was starting to show. Constant pressure on the Thistle defense proved too much as Stonefish deservedly got the equalizer. Thistle were lucky to hold on but all in all it was a well deserved draw. Full Time 2-2.

Summer League 2006

07/30/06 Partick Thistle 1 Jamrock 0. Champions!!! Champions!!! Champions!!! Yes, we did it the hard way (of course)…our last two games were draws but we managed to keep the league alive up until the very last day of the summer season. On the last day no less than four teams were capable of winning the league – fortunately luck was on our side! Jamrock, Stoke City and Brewery will all  be very disappointed today but I think to be fair, we deserved to win as we were the only team who were unbeaten the whole summer.

Today’s game was very disappointing and we played far below our potential. We couldn’t capitalize on Jamrock starting the game two players short (nothing new there) and after fifteen minutes they were at full strength and we missed the opportunity. We were the stronger side but Jamrock’s midfield was solid and no-one could break the stale-mate in the first half. The second half started the same way – we created more chances than Jamrock but we couldn’t finish it. This game was screaming for a goal and eventually Oliver Smith a.k.a. Spiderman put us out of our misery. This was enough to win the game and for us to win the summer championship – congratulations!

07/23/06 Partick Thistle 3 Stoke City 3. Sixteen players today which was a good turn-out but this was another game that which should have won but instead we dropped two points. We have one league game left which we have to win against Jamrock but if Brewery beat Stoke City then Brewery will win the league.

This season we are still unbeaten in the league but we might end up doing a 'Switzerland' (didn't lose a game but didn't win the league!)

07/16/06 Partick Thistle 3 Brewery 3. This top of the table clash ended in a draw despite the fact that we had 90% of the play. We had chance after chance after chance and our finishing was totally inadequate - we played some good football but it was all to no avail. All we got at the end of the day was one point out of a possible three.
To be fair, the Brewery soaked up the pressure like a giant sponge and defended really well. They had every man back in their half when it was necessary and their tactics of long ball and quick break caught us out three times out of seven.
We've played 5 games, won 3, tied 2. We have 2 games left in the summer league against Stoke City and Jamrock. If we win both games we will win the league - our destiny is in our hands....

07/02/06 Partick Thistle 4 Nellis 0. A better turn out this week (No World Cup games on this morning). A closely contested competition as a much improved Nellis side were well organized. It took Thistle twenty minutes before Eric Arlt found the net to put Thistle ahead. Thistle missed a couple of good chances while Nellis put together some good passes in the midfield but the through ball to their forwards found them to be caught offside. 1-0 at the half. The second half started and it didn't take long before Oliver Smith put Thistle up 2-0. The temperature was hitting triple digits and so was Thistle as Derik van Gessel broke away and made a perfect cross to Eric Arlt to score his second and Thistle's third. Nellis started to loose their composure as the game was getting out of reach. Another good attack from Thistle's older generation as they found the Nellis keeper to be out of his goal as Kenny put the game away. Final score 4-0. No game next week as it the World Cup final.

06/25/06 Partick Thistle 2 Sin City Utd 0. Our second game of the summer league and a great victory considering we only had 8 men at kick-off… 0 – 0 at half-time, three late-comers in the second half. Two goals from Oliver Smith sealed the opposition’s fate in a game that they should have won easily. However, we now have four points from two games – not bad. We have 24 players on our roster, 8 called before the game, 8 AWOL. Not good enough, changes are coming.

06/11/06 Partick Thistle 1 Ajax (A). 1. This is the first game of the Summer League and it puts together two of the top contenders for the title. Thistle came out strong and held most of the possession, moving the ball around and passing well. Most of the early chances fell Thistle's way, with one goal by Aaron Pottorff being disallowed for an apparent hand ball. Aaron didn't make the same mistake twice as he dug the ball out of the sand and slammed it into the back of the net. It was a closely contested game as both sides made some good attacking attempts. First half ended with Thistle up 1-0. Ajax came out looking stronger and were unlucky on a couple of occasions but, Thistle plugged away and a few chances of their own to put the game away. It wasn't until Terry Dublin from Ajax decided to dribble the ball through the Thistle defense to get a shot on goal for the equalizer. Thistle could of clinched the game as coach Billy Smith came on and broke free, having a clear shot on goal, he poke the ball wide. Final score 1-1.

05/21/06 Partick Thistle 3 Generals 1. Thistle come from behind to lift the LVPSL Division One Cup. A great day for football as the weather was perfect, although the pitch was still full of sand. Thistle applied most of the pressure and saw a couple of good chances go by. It was Generals though who broke through the offside trap to open up the scoring. Thistle passed the ball around well and were giving Generals a tough time on the flanks. Derek van Gesel especially was darting around and made a run down the right, he beat his man and crossed the ball over to find Dustin Grady waiting to tap it in. Thistle were looking the stronger side but were constantly vulnerable to the counter attack. Half time 1-1.  Thistle continued to pass the ball around as the Generals continued to bicker with the referees. Thistle's pressure finally paid off as Derek van Gesel ran onto a header from Peter Stubberud to score the go ahead goal. Generals had a couple of good chances to get a goal back but were unable to finish. With ten minutes left Thistle put the game away as a pin point cross from Aaron Pottorff found an onrushing Peter Stubberud who header the ball into the back of the net. That goal finished off the Generals as Thistle went on to win the Cup. A great team effort from Thistle as they thoroughly deserved to win this one.

05/14/06 Partick Thistle 6 Stonefish Utd. 4. The pitch resembled something from a Brazilian beach, as there was more sand on it than grass. Unlike the previous game between the two teams it was Thistle who got off to the miraculous start. The early start had proven costly for Stonefish as they started short handed. Thistle on its very first attack caught Stonefish napping and provided an own goal. Minutes later it was 2-0 as Oliver Smith broke away and slotted the ball home. Stonefish pushed forward and lost the ball in midfield were Oliver Smith (who was originally doubtful before the game 'cause of a spider bite) picked up the ball to make it 3-0. Before Stonefish could catch their breath Olive "Spiderman" Smith was at it again to get his hat trick. This was not the same Stonefish that played during the season. They finally got to full strength and began to get a little more possession. But before they could get comfortable it was Spiderman chipping the keeper to put the game at 5-0. Everyone was trying to get into the act, but it was Stonefish who caught Thistle's midfield too far forward, creating a gap between midfield and defense to dribble through and break the duck. Moments later they scored again. That's how the half ended 5-2. Stonefish now thinking they can get back into the game came out in the second half and applied all the pressure. Thistle once again picked up the ball in midfield and one more time Spiderman Oliver Smith was away to put the ball into the back of the net. At 6-2 you would of thought Stonefish would of given up. They applied relentless pressure, but were denied by Chris Schorl who made some great saves for Thistle included a dubious penalty kick. Eventually the pressure paid off as they were rewarded with another goal to make the game interesting for the last five minutes. Stonefish did get another consolation goal but the final whistle finally blew and Thistle came out victorious with a final score of 6-4. They now advance to final of the division 1 playoff. Coach Billy Smith as ordered a team meeting on Friday to apply spider bites to each and every team member.

05/07/06 Partick Thistle 3 Sin City Utd. 2. Both teams needed a victory here to ensure success in their respective divisions. Thistle started strong with a wave of attacks but, no clear chances. The best chance coming from John Bentley who hit the cross bar. It took a defensive error from Thistle though, who failed to clear the ball away for Sin City to dispossess the ball and round the keeper to open up the scoring. That's how the half ended with Sin City on top 1-0. Thistle came out with more determination and strung together some good passing in the midfield, to put John Crocker in the clear, to blast home a left footed shot into the top left. While Thistle were still celebrating Sin City were rewarded a corner kick. From the ensuing kick there was a goal mouth scrabble. Sin City poked the ball into the net to re establish their lead. Chance after chance followed but Thistle could not finish. Laslo Weyland had a shot on goal, the keeper fumbled the ball, Peter Stubberd followed up his shot and picked up the scraps. This is what coach Billy Smith had been preaching all day. Another shot at the keeper by Oliver Smith, another dropped ball and this time it was Derik van Gesel who got the winner. Final score 3-2. Thistle have done their part, now it is up to Stonefish to get a result against Generals for Thistle to win the league.

04/30/06 Partick Thistle 5 Brewery 1. Thistle needed to win this one and win it big to keep up the pressure on both Stonefish and the Generals. Brewery have always defended well against Thistle so it was important to score early to spread Brewery out. Thistle had a few good chances but it wasn't until the 16th minute that Derik van Gesel latched onto the ball to open up the scoring. Thistle pushed forward as coach Billy Smith shouted from the sidelines for more goals. Seto Mardirossian obliged by scoring his 23rd goal of the season. The two goal lead didn't last though as Brewery caught Thistle's defense napping to make it 2-1 at the half. The second half got underway and straight away Oliver Smith powered forward and extended the lead. Billy Smith wasn't satisfied and demanded more. Thistle applied the pressure and Brewery crumbled as they conceded an own goal to make it 4-1. Oliver Smith finished off Brewery with another well taken goal. The final score 5-1. All Thistle need is one favorable result to go their way to win the league.

04/23/06 Partick Thistle 2 Stonefish Utd. 3. This top of the table clash should decide who will take the honors this season. The game started with one of the quickest goals of the season as the very first Stonefish attack caught Thistle still wiping the sleep from their eyes as they opened up the scoring. Thistle managed to settle down and regroup. They put together a few good chances as Eric Arlt missed a perfect opportunity to put Thistle level. Thistle kept up the pressure and finally equalized as Laslo Wyland caught onto a loose ball. Stonefish were causing some problems for the Thistle defense as it was obvious that they were a lot faster. It was Thistle though with some good ball movement in the midfield between Obed Mayeorena and Oliver Smith, seeing the latter latch onto a great pass to put Thistle ahead. That's how the half ended, 2-1. It took Stonefish a little longer to open up the scoring in the second half. It was a defensive blunder from John Crocker who was dispossessed in midfield to give Stonefish their equalizer. Thistle pushed forward and sent in wave after wave of attacks but, couldn't find that finishing touch to score. It was Stonefish though who on the counter attack, broke through the off side trap to retake the lead. Thistle gave it their all to get the equalizer but time ran out as poor finishing was to be their downfall. A special thanks goes out to stand in goal keeper Phil who made some tremendous saves to keep the score real. With the loss it maybe hard to overcome Stonefish in the league but, with a little help and with three more wins it can be done. Final score Stonefish Utd win 3-2.

04/16/06 Partick Thistle 7 Vegas FC. 0. A blustery morning caused problems when going against the wind. Thistle won the toss and opted to take the wind advantage. Coach Billy Smith gave the green light to shoot from anywhere. After settling down new guy John Bentley broke away and hit one from 30 yards out to open the scoring. Minutes later Eric Arlt got Thistles 2nd. Vegas were finding it hard to get the ball out of their half. Thistle made a couple of substitutions and within minutes of coming on Michael Ogawa scored to make it 3-0.The wind advantage was playing dividends for Thistle as John Bentley had another shot on goal to score his 2nd and Thistle's fourth. Half time 4-0. The second half started and Thistle kept the ball down the flanks and on the ground. Seto Mardirossian opened the scoring with a great individual effort as he dribbled through the Vegas defense. Moments later newcomer Stilli Mitkov from Bulgaria scored his first goal for the club. Eric Arlt finished off the scoring to make the full time score 7-0.

04/09/06 Partick Thistle 5 Nellis 0. Partick over powered an under manned Nellis side and cruised to a comfortable victory. The extra men was too much for Nellis to over come, as Thistle should of scored on numerous occasions. It wasn't until the twentieth minute that Thistle finally put one in the back of the net. It came directly from the corner kick as Laslo Weyland curled it in. Thistle continued to attack and Oliver Smith broke through and made it 2-0. Thistle although up comfortably still made it hard work to score. It was getting frustrating as the flood gates should of opened but chance after chance went by. Derik van Gesel decided to take charge as he dribbled through the Nellis defense to score. That made it 3-0 at the half. The second half started and Thistle were pushing for more goals. Within minutes Michael Ogawa beat the offside trap and scored. Twenty more minutes of more missed chances until Seto Mardirossian, who couldn't buy a goal earlier, finally got on the score sheet. A dismal performance overhaul from Thistle who could only mange to score five goals against a very weak Nellis side. Congratulations go out to the Nellis goal keeper though who made some fantastic saves.

03/26/06 Partick Thistle 2 Jamrock Utd. 2. Another sub par performance from Thistle in a game they should of won comfotably. In fact after many misses it was Jamrock who took advantage of a defensive error that went ahead. Thistle pushed forward to get the equalizer but couldn't get the ball through cleanly enough to give the forwards a chance. The first half ended 1-0 to Jamrock. Thistle came out in the second with a bit more determination and looked a lot more positive. Thistle started using the flanks to spread out the defense. The tactic worked as newcomer Oliver Smith found an opening to bring the score level. Thistle were now in control and could taste the go ahead goal. Unfortunately as one of their many attacks broke down, Jamrock who had been having trouble all day with the offside trap, finally got through to score. Thistle didn't give up, they maintained the pressure and with ten minutes to spare they equalized again after Dustin Grady had hit the crossbar for Derik van Gessel to pick up the scraps. Thistle were unable to get the winner as the score finished at 2-2.

03/12/06 Partick Thistle 0 Stoke City 4. A depleted squad faced an in form Stoke side that took advantage of Thistle's late arrivals and absent players. Coach Billy Smith had to put in a lot of players carrying injuries to make up a team. Thistle held their ground for the first twenty minutes and even had a couple of good chances go by. It was Stoke though that capitalized on a long throw in to head the ball over stand in keeper Eric Arlt to open the scoring. As the game progressed Thistle's lack of substitutes started to show, as gaps in the Thistle defense started to open up. It wasn't long before Stoke added two more goals to end the half at 3-0. A couple more players showed up to give the injured players a rest. Seto Mardirossian had a couple of good chances but it was to be a frustrating morning for the leagues leading scorer, as a lack of touches and support were never there. Thistle did play a lot better in the second half but as in the first they got tired legs as the game progressed. Thistle pushed forward to get into the game but it was Stoke who counter attacked to finish off the game at 4-0. It was a very disappointing game for Thistle who are leading their respective division to only have a handle of healthy players show up.

03/05/06 Partick Thistle 2 Generals 1. This promised to be an evenly matched game, as the Generals have much improved as the season as progressed. Thistle still with a few key players absent were having difficulty moving the ball through the midfield to the forwards. It was going to take a mistake in the defense to break open this game. The Generals kept on probing Thistle's offside trap and their patience finally prevailed as they broke through from the half way line to open up the scoring. That's how the first half ended, with the Generals up 1-0. Thistle started the second half and pushed forward for the equalizer. Immediately, with a cross from Seto Mardirossian into the area,  Derik van Gessel was bundled off the ball and was awarded a penalty. Seto Mardirossian came forward to take the penalty and slammed the ball into the top left. The game was looking as though it was going to be a stalemate as neither team could break the deadlock. Thistle had a good ten minute spell and moved the ball around. A miscued shot on goal found Seto Mardirossian, who dribbled past a couple of Generals defenders and found an opening to score the go ahead goal. Generals pushed forward to even up the game but it was to no avail as the game ended with Thistle up 2-1. With Stonefish losing today, Thistle have put some gap between the two for their quest for the division 1 championship.

02/26/06 Partick Thistle 1 Ethio Star 2. Thistle came out strong knowing a victory would put them on top of their division. Thistle pushed forward for the opening goal and squandered a few early chances. It was Ethio Star on the counter attack though that saw the Ethio Star forward break away to be one on one with the keeper and open up the scoring. Thistle maintained their pressure on the Ethio defense and moved the ball around both flanks. They found an opening on the left and Seto Mardirossian took a shot, the Ethio keeper couldn't hold on to the ball and it dropped in front of Derik van Gessel who slotted it home for the equalizer. Thistle kept up the pressure, this time down the right, Derik van Gessel put in a great cross for Seto Mardirossian who put Thistle ahead but, he was adjudged to being offside. Half time 1-1. Thistle opened up the second half the same way as they started the first. Thistle having some great chances on goal. Ethio's goal keeper was busy and making some excellent saves. Thistle with all the pressure but once again it was Ethio Star who broke away on the counter attack that got the go ahead goal. Moments later a seemingly harmless tackle on an Ethio Star player by James Martin saw the Ethio player being sent off for taking a swing at James. At 2-1 and a man advantage, Thistle pushed everyone forward, chances kept coming and going, even goal keeper Mark Collingbourne got into the action as he drove one wide of the post. The equalizer didn't come though and the final score ended 2-1 to Ethio Star. Thistle will look back on this game and wonder how they didn't capitalize on the many chances they had, as they were the better team on the day.

02/12/06 Partick Thistle 1 Ajax 6. Thistle struggled to put up any resistance against a strong Ajax side especially with key players out with other commitments. Ajax applied all the pressure in this one sided affair as Thistle were very limited in all aspects of the game. It didn't take long as Ajax split the Thistle defense and created a one on one situation with stand in goal tender Eric Arlt to open the scoring. Thistle felt as though they were given the short end of the stick on Ajax's second goal as the Ajax forward was clearly offside. This resulted in George Varhelyi being sent off for descent as he sent a barrage of insults the referees way. Somehow Thistle managed to muster up an attack and were rewarded when Dustin Grady was open to put Thistle back into the game. That was short lived though as Ajax exploited the Thistle defense and breach the Thistle goal on two more occasions to make it 4-1 at the half. It was all one way traffic in the second half as Ajax pounded the Thistle goal. They probably could of scored at least half a dozen more times but had to settle for two to make the full time score 6-1. It was always going to be tough for Thistle but a lack of spirit and injuries to some players never helped.

02/05/06 Partick Thistle 7 Brewery 1. Thistle put together a good all-round performance to put away Brewery. With a few key players out with suspensions and a few more attending Super Bowl hangovers, Thistle put together a make shift team that started strong with  goals from Seto Mardirossian and Michael Ogawa. Thistle could of been cruising for a victory, coach Billy Smith was even heard saying that one more goal and he was going on. It wasn't to be though as Brewery didn't give up and for a good twenty minute spell kept the pressure on the Thistle defense and managed to pull a goal back. It wasn't looking good as Brewery had a couple of chances to put the game back in their favor. Thistle did get their two goal cushion back just before the half as some good build up play found Seto Mardirossian open to claim Thistle's third. At the half it was 3-1. The second half started with Brewery pushing forward to get something out of this game and for the first twenty minutes both teams were at a stalemate. A goal mouth scramble saw a goal disallowed as Phil Holliday was adjudged to be offside. Then the flood gates opened as Billy Smith made the Scotland FA rethink about selecting him for the European Championships, as he sent over a pin point cross to an on running Seto Mardirossian who took advantage of a tiring Brewery back line and scored his hat trick. If that wasn't enough Billy Smith sent another pin point pass to the other side of the field to find Eric Arlt who finished brilliantly to score Thistle's fifth. Thistle kept up the pressure and the goals kept on coming with another moment of brilliance as Billy Smith took a shot from thirty yards out that gave the keeper no chance. At 6-1 Brewery were finished but Eric Arlt wanted more as he broke away again and made the final score 7-1.

01/29/06 Partick Thistle 4 Vegas FC 2. Thistle came out totally flat footed in the first half to turn it around in the second against a spirited Vegas team that had the feeling they were in for the upset. Thistle squandered numerous chances in the first half and were frustrated as Vegas made good on theirs as they went in at the half 2-0 for the better. A stern talking to by coach Billy Smith and Thistle came out with a lot more vigor and determination as a loss here would have certainly limited their chances of winning the league. Thistle applied more pressure on the ball, every touch from a Vegas player was confronted with the presence of a Thistle player. This resulted in more turnovers and it wasn't long before Seto Mardirossian capitalized on one of these turnovers and opened up the scoring for Thistle. A great ten minute spell followed as Vegas wondered if Thistle had extra guys on the field. George Varhelyi equalized and another strike from Seto Mardirossian put Thistle ahead. Thistle totally dominated the game now until a moment of pure stupidity as a good tackle from the Vegas defender on George Varhelyi saw George swing a leg out at the defender and then the handbags were out. The result of all the melee saw both George Varhelyi, the Vegas defender and Laslo Weyland all being sent off. Vegas then pushed hard to get the equalizer and sent everyone forward. Unfortunately they negated to allow for the long kicks of Thistle keeper Mark Collingbourne who launched one in the path of Seto Mardirossian who ran the ball into the penalty area and slammed the ball home for his hat trick. The final; score being 4-2.

01/22/06 Partick Thistle 1 Stonefish Utd. 1. This top of the table clash was all it was billed to be as both teams tested each others defense. Stonefish having the better of the chances in the first half. At the half it was 0-0. It was going to be a mistake in the defense that is going to break this dead lock. As expected Stonefish pushed forward and found the Thistle defense still sat on the side line wondering what is going on as Stonefish broke away and left the Thistle keeper helpless to open the scoring. It was a bad ten minute spell for Thistle. If it wasn't for the brilliant goal tending from Mark Collingbourne, Stonefish could of extended their lead. Thistle settled down and the game began to open up. Thistle maintaining more of the possession now. A good build up around the Stonefish penalty box found Seto Mardirossian open. Stonefish couldn't close him down before he rifled the ball home to tie the game. The games tempo had moved up a notch as both teams tried to get the winner. It was to no avail though as it remained at 1-1, a fair result on the day.

01/08/06 Partick Thistle 3 Nellis 0. Nellis had to forfeit this game due to other commitments.

12/18/05 Partick Thistle 2 Aston Villa 6. Thistle succumb to another premier team blitz in the second half after going in 2-0 at the half. Thistle put up another great performance in the first half and totally dominated the play. Within twenty minutes they were on the scoreboard from Derik Van Gessel as he attacked from the right. More chances came Thistle's way but some last minute tackling prevented them from adding to the score. It wasn't until Seto Mardirossian found himself open to slot it passed the Villa keeper. Another break away, this time from George Varhelyi saw him brought down in the penalty area. It was a clear call for a penalty but the referee played on. A good half of football from Thistle, 2-0. Villa made a few tactical changes for the second half and started to find ways through the Thistle defense.  With some good ball movement and a lack of concentration on Thistle's part saw them pull back a goal. At 2-1 all was not lost, then came the ten minute blitz as momentum was all on Villa. Villa scored again, then again, and again and if that wasn't enough they scored again. It was now 5-2 and Thistle's heads were hanging low. To top off a perfect second half Villa finished off the game with their sixth goal of the game. This was the third game against a premier team that Thistle have competed and looked good in the first half only to come out in the second and be totally dominated. Final score 6-2 to Villa.

12/11/05 Partick Thistle 5 Red Star Belgrade 2. Thistle get back to winning ways as they create and execute with more conviction. A sloppy first fifteen minutes saw lots of bad passing and crosses going nowhere. Thistle finally realized that the Red Star goal keeper wasn't their regular and started  taking a few long ranged shots to test him. It paid off as Dustin Grady found himself open 30 yards out, launching one into the back of the net. Red Star kept pushing down the middle but couldn't break through. The times they did get through poor finishing prevented them from equalizing. Thistle attacked down the left and a good cross found George Varhelyi open to walk home the goal. Derik Van Gessel continued to attack down the right 'causing all sorts of problems for the Red Star defense. His persistence paid off as a nice individual effort put the score at 3-0 at the half. The second half started off similar to the first as Thistle came out disorganized, which allowed Red Star to dribble through the defense and make it 3-1. At 3-1 Red Star were back in the game as they pushed forward and played with a lot more confidence. Thistle keeper Mark Collingbourne took advantage of this and kept on launching the ball over the back of the Red Star defense. He eventually connected to an on rushing George Varhelyi who scored his second and Thistle's fourth. Red Star didn't give up and almost immediately pulled one back to let Thistle know that this game wasn't over. Thistle responded and with some good attacking they forced the corner. On the ensuing corner  George Varhelyi with a lot of time picked out his spot and delivered a beautiful ball that connected with the head of Matt Shelling to put the game away. Final score 5-2. A special thanks goes out to Blaire, as this was her last game supporting the team, as she she is moving to Idaho.

12/04/05 Partick Thistle 0 Nationals 4. Yet another game of two halves that saw Thistle with the more chances to take control of the game in the first and totally collapse in the second. For the majority of the first half Thistle kept the Nationals on their back foot and with some better shooting could of taken the advantage. Half time 0-0. 15 minutes into the second half and both defenses were up to what ever sides attack. Nationals did start to break down Thistle's offside trap and started to create a few more chances. The game started to sway towards Nationals as they forced an excellent save from Mark Collingbourne. Unfortunately the next play wasn't one that Mark would like to remember as the on going dead ball was kicked directly to the Nationals forward who this time had no problem scoring. Thistle kept on pushing for that elusive first goal but had no luck as they hit the ball wide, over and hit the post. Nationals defended excellently and counter attacked every chance they had. Their second goal was a bit controversial as the Nationals forward went to ground and seemed to handle the ball as he got back up. Thistle's heads started to drop as they played well enough to at least match Nationals. Another counter attack from the Nationals and another defensive error from Thistle made it 3-0. Nationals capitalized on the bickering that pursued from the Thistle players and scored a fourth. All in all the score line doesn't depict how many chances Thistle had to take control of the game early on  but, they need to keep their heads up and avoid the bickering to enable them to get back into a game that they have lost control of.

11/20/05 Partick Thistle 1 Tyneside Utd 5. All it took was a bad 10 minute spell in the second half and the speed and fitness of Tyneside Utd. took no prisoners, as they stripped Thistle of its previously unbeaten record. The first ten minutes of the game saw both sides feeling each other out, with Tyneside having the advantage in the midfield. They swung the ball over the Thistle defense trying to break down the offside trap. Thistle were defending well, not giving Tyneside too many opportunities. Some good pressure from Thistle found Seto Mardirossian open on the left flank. With a pin point cross he found the head of George Varhelyi who headed the ball down into the Tyneside net. More pressure from Tyneside caught the Thistle defense out with a long throw in. A bad attempt of clearing found a Tyneside forward in front of goal. You don't need to give Tyneside opportunities like this, as he side footed the ball in to make it 1-1. A great half by Thistle. Tyneside must have got a tough team talk at the half as they came out in the second half with a lot more vigor and determination. Their passing was a lot more crisper and they were running off the ball, 'causing a lot of break downs in the Thistle defense. Tyneside's speed and fitness was starting to show as the Thistle defense was starting to get tired legs. Tyneside starting getting around the back of the defense. A shot on goal saw a bad deflection, which caught the Thistle keeper wrong footed to make it 2-1. Then the wheels fell off and Tyneside took total control of the game and with in ten minutes they breached the Thistle goal on two more occasions. At 4-1 the game was out of reach. Thistle did manage to get a bit of their shape back and came close to adding a couple of consolation goals but, it was Tyneside who finished off the scoring and finished off Thistle to make the final score 5-1. Apart from that ten minute spell Thistle put up a great performance but, Tyneside showed why they are the dominant team in the league.

11/13/05 Partick Thistle 3 Celta Vigo 1. The game started at a fast and furious pace with Celta Vigo running at the Thistle defense. Thistle had a couple of good chances early on but, it was Vigo with a blistering shot from 35 yards out that opened up the scoring. Thistle kept up the pressure and with some good individual play from Seto Mardirossian who fought off the presence of a Vigo defender to slam home the equalizer with a left footed shot. The momentum was swinging Thistle's way as they kept on attacking the Vigo flanks. A foul on Derik Van Gessel gave Thistle a free kick 40 yards out. George Kiss stepped up to take it, swinging a perfect ball to the back post, where he connected with the head of George Varhelyi to make it 2-1 at the half. The second half started the same as the first with some good attacking  from both sides. With Thistle defending there lead they reverted to counter attacking as Seto and George were causing havoc with the Vigo defense. Seto Mardirossian gave Thistle a two goal cushion as this time he finished with his right to make it 3-1. The pace never slowed down the entire game. Vigo with all their pace couldn't break down the off side trap, as they were called off side on numerous occasions. Another outstanding performance by Thistle kept their unbeaten record for this season intact. Final score 3-1.

11/06/05 Partick Thistle 7 Jamrock 2. A positive start for Thistle as they dominated most of the possession for the first ten minutes. Jamrock didn't show any signs of mounting an attack but, the one long range shot that they took found the back of the net as the Thistle defense stood there and watched it sail over their heads. Thistle maintained pressure on the Jamrock defense and after some good passing Aaron Pottorff found himself open to left foot the ball passed the Jamrock keeper. Jamrock continued to use the long ball trying to break down the Thistle offside trap.  More pressure from Thistle and a break down the right saw Laslo Weyland cross the ball over the keeper and into the net. Minutes later George Varhelyi found himself one on one with the keeper. The score now 3-1. Jamrock pulled a goal back just before half time from a corner. A low cross wasn't cleared by the defense resulting in the goal. Half time 3-2. Jamrock had a good ten minute spell after the half as Thistle were on their back foot. Jamrock pushed forward for the equalizer but, got caught out as Mark Collingbourne launched the ball down the center of the park for George Varhelyi to break away. A nice cross into the box connected with Laslo Weyland to put Thistle up 4-2. The goals were coming plentiful after that as George Varhelyi and Welnar Zuleta  extended Thistle's tally. At 6-2 the game was all but over. Thistle mounted one more attack. Phil Holliday latched onto a loose ball in the area and crossed the ball back into the box for Welnar Zuleta to score his second. A very good performance by Thistle against a previously unbeaten team.

10/23/05 Partick Thistle 5 Sin City Utd. 2. Seto Mardirossian single handedly ripped Sin City Utd. apart. It was a great all around display from Thistle who apart from two defensive mistakes totally dominated the game. After going down a goal Thistle responded immediately with two quick goals from Seto Mardirossian. Thistle though kept leaving a gap in their central defense which Sin City exploited and scored the equalizer. It looked as though it was going to be one of those high scoring affairs between the two rivals, with who ever gets the ball last will win. Just before the half though Seto Mardirossian completed his hat trick and led the team in with a 3-2 lead. Thistle kept up the pressure and after spending most of the time in the Sin City half Seto Mardirossian scored his fourth with some good supporting play from George Varhelyi. Seto Mardirossian wasn't finished their. A break away down the middle, with the Sin City defenders chasing him at the heels Seto Mardirossian capped a fifth goal to make a full time score of 5-2. No need to tell you who won the man of the match award.

10/16/05 Partick Thistle 6 Generals 2. Thistle expected a tough game from the Generals as they had edged Thistle 2-1 in the preseason. Thistle came out well organized and controlled the game. All the pressure was in the Generals half. A hand ball in the Generals box gave Seto Mardirossian a chance to open up the scoring. He successfully converted the penalty to make it 1-0. The lead didn't last to long though as a rare goal keeping error from the 6' 4" Mark Collingbourne saw a 35 yard shot sail over his head. Thistle maintained the pressure as George Varhelyi ran onto a through ball and with a great cross finding the head of Dustin Grady to make it 2-1 at the half. The Generals were being exploited down both flanks and with some unselfish passing, John Crocker found himself wide open to hit home Thistle's third. The Generals started to be a lot less organized from the last time we played and it was Seto Mardirossian who was doing the damage. He broke through and managed to pass a couple of defenders to slot the ball passed the Generals keeper with a cracking left foot shot. Five minutes later it was 5-1 as George Varhelyi deservedly got his name on the score sheet. At 5-1 the game was becoming out of reach for the Generals. They had a good 15 minute spell though as a Generals forward was brought down on the edge of the box. As the wall was preparing for the free kick, a quickly taken kick surprised everyone as the Thistle keeper was pulling the ball out of the back of the net. The Generals pushed forward and were caught on the counter attack as Seto Mardirossian punished them from a great run from the half way line to record his hat trick. That made the full time score 6-2.

10/09/05 Partick Thistle 3 Celtic 1. The first game of the new season was played on a blustery day which was causing havoc for both teams. Thistle started off well and passed the ball around, creating a couple of good chances but the finishing wasn't there. Seto Mardirossian made a good run down the left flank and managed to get the ball across the face of the goal. The Celtic keeper had trouble handling it and Dustin Grady was there to poach the goal into the net. Thistle maintained the lead for much of the half until a defensive error saw the Celtic forward break through the defense and with no one to stop him evened up the game. Half time 1-1. With the wind to our backs in the second half Thistle pushed forward. The Celtic keeper was having one of those Dracula days as he was definitely having a problem with the crosses. Dustin Grady was lingering in the box when the Celtic keeper gave him an early Christmas present and Dustin obliged by scoring his second. Dustin Grady completed his hat trick as he muscled through the Celtic defense and poked the ball into the back of the net. Thistle had a few more chances to increase their lead but the game ended with a comfortable 3-1 victory. Dustin celebrated his hat trick with a hit from a fag (ciggy to you Americans).

09/25/05 Partick Thistle 3 Aston Villa 2. Another good turn out gave manager Billy Smith more options to try new players. Thistle controlled most of the possession in the early stages with some good ball movement. Thistle created a few good chances and kept Villa on their back foot. Some good passing between the midfield which extended to putting Seto Mardirossian through, who unselfishly laid it off for George Varhelyi to slot it home. Thistle extended their lead as Seto Mardirossian caused havoc down the left flank, crossing the ball into the area for Michael Ogawa to crash into the box and head the ball into the back of the net. Villa did manage to pull back a goal before the half to make it 2-1.  Villa came out in the second half with a lot more vigor and started to press hard for the equalizer. Mark Collingbourne, the Thistle keeper, made some miraculous saves to keep Thistle in the game. It was a good 20 minute spell for Villa but it was that man Seto Mardirossian who extended the Thistle lead to 3-1. Villa scored a consolation goal late in the game but it was a good display by Thistle showing some great potential for the up and coming season.

09/18/05 Partick Thistle 3 Nationals 3. The old rivalry was re-established in the annual preseason friendly. Thistle had another full squad of players available, all trying to impress manager Billy Smith. The starting eleven showed some good poise and were able to put some pressure on the Nationals. The game was pretty much even until a good piece of passing starting from the midfield saw Michael Ogawa run in from the left and hammer the ball home. Nationals had a chance to equalize straight away as the Thistle defense had fallen a sleep while celebrating the goal. Thistle held out strong until just before the half time whistle when Nationals equalized. 1-1 half time. Thistle came out strong in the second half and were causing a lot of problems for the Nationals defense as they attacked from both flanks. A goal each from Seto Mardirossian and one from George Varhelyi put Thistle 3-1 up. Billy changed up the team to give some of the new guys a run out. This giving the Nationals a chance to grab a couple of scrappy goals towards the end to finish the game at 3-3.

09/11/05 Partick Thistle 1 Generals 2. The first preseason game of the year and with a lot of new faces Billy Smith had a lot of substitutes to play with. Generals are new to the league but already look like a well organized unit. The game itself was a pretty much even affair with both sides having chances. Seto Mardirossian broke the dead lock though to put Thistle ahead. Unfortunately after one of many shift changes it took the Thistle defense a little time to reorganize. By that time though the Generals had equalized. It remained 1-1 at the interval. Billy was trying out the new players in the second half. Basically it came down to a lack of communication but all in all they put up some good resistance to a resilient Generals team. Eventually the Generals broke down the right flank and with a good pass to the center of the box, the Generals forward slotted home the ball for the lead and the deciding goal.

2005 Summer League

07/17/05 Partick Thistle 6 Nellis Airforce Base 0 Temperatures reached 105 degrees at 9am so it was a hard slog of a game. Newcomers to the league Nellis are still building their team but they have players that are showing a lot of promise. We played some good football and everybody who played should be congratulated especially since we had a very special guest all the way from Scotland – Joe from Drumchapel, Glasgow, a lifelong Thistle fan! We managed to put a smile on his face as he watched a Thistle team win comfortably! This was our last game in the summer league, our next game will probably be a friendly in approximately 3 weeks’ time.

07/10/05  Partick Thistle 6 Sevilla 0 This was our best performance this summer against a strong Sevilla side. We defended well with ex- British Bulldogs defender Ned Johnson at the back along with Charlie Csibi. George, Seto and Derek up front caused Sevilla lots of problems and Michael in the middle had a powerful game. Our new players Justin Schnorenberg, Trevor Quirk, Elias, Dave Martin, and Brummie Dave have all been great additions to the squad.

07/03/05 Partick Thistle 4 Sin City Utd. 6. Both teams only had nine players out of a full squad of 20 which was a dismal turnout for both sides. The game was open for anybody to win so the manager had to improvise with what he had (which wasn’t a lot!) The team that we did have could have played much better but unfortunately for us Sin City had more of an appetite to win today.

06/26/05 Partick Thistle 5 Stonefish Utd. 2. A scrappy game, both teams have played better football than what was on display today. Fortunately we came out ahead even though we found ourselves down 1-0 at the half. The 2nd half started with a bit more spirit and within a minute Thistle had equalized with Seto Mardirossian running onto a through ball and with true executioner style slotted the ball home. Seto hadn't finished and a few minutes later he was in for his second. Stonefish didn't give up though as a defensive error gave them the equalizer.  Thistle pressed on and once again it was that man Seto to complete his hat trick. Thistle went further ahead to make it 4-2. At that point Thistle were in control, George Varhelyi broke into the box and was blatantly brought down for a penalty but to his disbelief the penalty was not awarded and he was shown a yellow card for descent followed by a red for saying nasty words in Hungarian. Thistle maintain their dominance though with a nice goal from Trevor Quick. That was the final score 5-2.

06/19/05 Partick Thistle 3 Ajax 5. This is a game we should have won. We had most of the pressure, but again, instead of taking chances and shooting on goal we opted for continual passing around the 18-yard box hoping a gap would open up, which never happened. Considering Ajax didn’t have their No 1 goalie we can’t afford the luxury of a wonderful build-up, looking for that spectacular goal. That aside, we did play well against an Ajax team that were in the league above us during the last season.

06/05/05 Partick Thistle 7 Brewery 3 This was the opening game of the summer league and fortunately we managed to shake off our Brewery jinx – the last two times we played Brewery we tied but this time we took an early lead and held it. George Varhelyi and Laszlo Weyland hooked up and did some good 1—2’s down the right side which led to a few goals  During the first half an hour Josh Montgomery in goals barely touched the ball. In mid-field we had a new face on trial from Toon Tongs Thistle in Scotland, Jamie Ritchie making his U.S. debut. Jamie managed to hold the ball up and distribute it well but the extreme desert heat took its toll on his peely-wally skin…! But to be fair he did exceptionally well and we are hoping to sign him on a permanent basis.

In the second half Jamie took a turn in goals to let Josh have a run-around. In one incident Brewery took a corner and Jamie leapt up and managed to hook the ball into his own net…very similar to the Scotland goal against Moldova. Jamie’s face matched the colour of the Thistle shirt for only a few seconds until the referee ruled the ball was out of play from the corner kick.

There is no game next week but there will be a game on Sunday 19th –kick-off time to be determined. Remember to bring your fees - $25 for the summer.

2004/05 Winter League

05/15/05 Partick Thistle 2-3 Ethio Star. This was Thistle's biggest game of the year, as it was it's only chance to secure a playoff place. The game didn't start to Thistle's game plan as they were 2-0 down within the first 15 minutes of the game. They finally realized though that if you put some effort in and pressurize the Ethio Star midfield, they tend not to get off that perfect pass and give the ball away. With this mentality Thistle managed to claw it's way back into the game and with a goal from George Varhelyi, it was 2-1 at the half. The second half started and Thistle kept up the pressure. After a couple of near misses and hitting the crossbar, Derik Van Gessel leveled the score at 2-2. The game was end to end with Thistle having more of the  opportunities. Unfortunately the constant pressure in the midfield took it's toll as several of the Thistle midfield got tired and allowed the Ethio Star midfield to penetrate the Thistle defense for a final score of 3-2.

The Thistle team will like to wish Rami Schwarz good luck on his venture to Japan. It was good playing with you.

05/08/05 Partick Thistle 0-2 Sevilla. After last weeks goal fest things looked promising for Thistle. This was a game that they needed to win to stay in contention. It was a pretty closely contested first half with both sides not having many chances. After a 0-0 first half, Thistle had the wind and pressed forward to try and open the scoring. It wasn't to be though as Sevilla with a fast break through the Thistle defense opened up the scoring. Thistle kept up the attack though but couldn't get a clear shot on goal. Thistle came out flat and created very few opportunities to equalize. With everyone pressing forward it was Sevilla who put the icing on the cake with another break away. Final score 2-0 to Sevilla.

05/01/05 Partick Thistle 7-2 Sin City Utd. A makeshift team showed up today with Phil Holliday taking over from the absent Billy Smith. For the first 15 minutes Thistle applied the pressure but couldn't find the finishing touch. It was Sin City though that capitalized on a defensive error, as they sent in a long ball over the defense to open the scoring. Thistle kept its composure and immediately went back on the attack. George Varhelyi with a quick brace of goals put Thistle ahead at 2-1. Thistle went further ahead with a great cross from the flank from Laslo Wyland to find an unmarked Mike Kovacs who headed in from six yards out. Hamid Beria made amends for hitting the cross bar earlier and broke away from just passed the half way line to shoot it passed an outstretched Sin City keeper to make the half time score 4-1. The Second half started with Thistle controlling the ball in the midfield. It wasn't until 20 minutes in that some good ball movement around the Sin City area found Phil Holliday open, who with a nice first touch , wrong footed the defense and slotted the ball into the net. After all the celebrations had died down, Phil Holliday was again found open in the area. With a clever chip over the keeper, Thistle were up 6-1. Sin City did manage to pull one back to make it 6-2 with a mirror image play of their first goal. The game was all but over but for one last Thistle attack. Laslo Wyland and George Varhelyi gave a little of the Hungarian connection,  with some good passing it looked as though George was going to make his hat trick. Unselfishly though he found an open Sammy Gunnion who tapped it in from close range to finish off the scoring at 7-2.

Our condolences go out to Jayne who's father had passed away earlier that morning.

04/24/05 Partick Thistle 3-0 Celtic. This was to be the last battle of Glasgow of the season, Vegas style. Celtic started the game short, so most of the game was in the Celtic half with Thistle looking for the early goal. Like the week before though there was a lot of activity in front of the Celtic goal mouth but no goals. Thistle made a couple of tactical substitutions.  George Varhelyi coming back from vacation, instantly making an impact as he broke through the Celtic defense to open the scoring. That ended the first half at 1-0. Celtic had a couple of chances to open the second half but for a goal line clearance from Dustin Grady and some good goaltending from stand in keeper Josh keeping the score at 1-0. It was Thistle though that doubled there efforts as George Varhelyi scored his second. The game got a little more physical after that. Thistle kept up the pressure and another attack from George Varhelyi saw the Celtic keeper commit himself to the tackle. George Varhelyi passed the ball to an on rushing Phil Holliday who slammed the ball into the back of the net. That finished off Celtic, with final score of 3-0.

04/17/05 Partick Thistle 0-0 Brewery. Thistle dropped a valuable point against a resilient Brewery side who defended their socks off today. If shots on goal, hit posts, hit crossbars and miraculous goalkeeper saves counted, I think the score line would of been 40 points to 2. But, alas it only counts when the ball goes into the back of the net. Hats off to Brewery, who's eleven man defense prevailed.

04/10/05 Partick Thistle 3-4 Stonefish Utd. Thistle were always chasing this game and after forward Eric Ault came down on his ankle and broke it the game was out of reach.

03/13/05 Partick Thistle 3-3 Red Star Belgrade. Another closely contested game saw Thistle contain most of the first half with some good ball movement and running from Derik Van Gessel. Thistle creating the  best chances hitting the post on a couple of occasions before George Varhelyi broke through and broke the deadlock. It wasn't long after when Brett Andrews from the edge of the box sent a rocket into the roof of the net. The first half seemed to longer than expected and with a long ball from the Red Star keeper, a mix up between the Thistle keeper and defender saw the long legs of the Red Star forward lob it into the net. 2-1 at the half. Red Star came out with a lot more determination as that goal inspired them. It didn't take them long to equalize as some more suspect defending from Thistle gave the keeper no chance. Red Star dominated most of the play in the second half but it was some great play from midfielder Nickoli who slotted the ball into the path of George Varhelyi, who with one touch put it passed the Red Star keeper. Red Star never gave up and with minutes left their perseverance was rewarded as they grab the equalizer. Final score 3-3.

03/06/05 Partick Thistle 3-0 Sevilla. The points were in the bag before the game had started as Sevilla had to forfeit the game due to lack of regular players. We still managed to get a game in though and even though the game didn't mean anything both sides put on a good display and made it entertaining to watch. Three unanswered goals in the first half justified the forfeit with goals coming from George Varhelyi, Derik Van Gessel, and Mirwyse Ahmady. The victory put Thistle on top of the league.

02/27/05 Partick Thistle 5-0 Celtic. Hopefully this was the game that broke open the flood gates for the Thistle forwards. This was to be the battle of Glasgow, Las Vegas style. The first twenty minutes were pretty much even with Thistle squandering a couple of good chances in front of the Celtic goal. The deadlock was broken though as the Celtic goalkeeper made a handling error outside of his box to give Mirwyse Ahmady an opportunity to show why he takes the free kicks. He didn't disappoint either as he slotted the ball into the top corner of the Celtic net. Moments later Thistle were on the attack again and another handling error, this time by a Celtic defender in his own area saw Mirwyse Ahmady step up to the penalty spot and without hesitation doubled the score to 2-0. The second half saw Celtic have a couple of good chances to get back into the game but the Thistle defense held strong. Celtics lack of substitutes started to wear down on them as Thistle pressed forward to put the game away. Some good movement and passing from Thistle's Hungarian players saw Laslo Wyland score his first goal for Thistle as he followed up in the box to side foot the ball in from six yards out. Celtic were being outplayed and were always back peddling as Thistle kept up the pressure. A perfect corner from George Varhelyi found the head of Brett Andrews, who was having trouble keeping the ball down all day with his feet, to make it 4-0. John Crocker finished off the scoring as he slammed the ball into the roof of the net from close range. The final score 5-0 to Thistle.

02/13/05 Partick Thistle 1-1 Brewery. The goal drought continues as the Thistle front line failed to covert on numerous occasions in front of the Brewery goal. Give credit were it is due though as the Brewery goal keeper made some excellent saves to keep Brewery in the game. Thistle should of gone in at the half with a comfortable lead but the game was deadlocked at 0-0. After more misses, Thistle managed to get the ball in the back of the net from a counter attack from George Varhelyi. Brewery didn't give up though as they capitalized on some suspect defending and evened up the score. Thistle continued to squander chance after chance and in the end Brewery earned themselves a very respectable point. Final score 1-1.

02/06/05 Partick Thistle 1-3 Stonefish Utd. Stonefish came out firing on all cylinders and before the Thistle defense had time to get warmed up they were already two goals down. Thistle were totally shell shocked and were caught napping again as they went down 3-0 at the interval. After a stern talking to by coach Smith, Thistle came out strong and had a few chances to score with one goal being disallowed for offside. They kept on pushing forward and after more near misses they finally broke through with new guy Derik Van Gessel getting his first goal for Thistle. That's the way it ended though as Thistle squandered a lot of good opportunities.

01/23/05 Partick Thistle 5-2 Red Star. The first half was  close and exciting, each side having some good chances to put their sides ahead. It was Thistle though who broke the deadlock with a well taken goal by Brett Andrews. The first half ended at 1-0. The second half got underway and it was still end to end. Red Star were having trouble with the offside trap and momentum started to swing Thistle's way. George Varhelyi broke through the Red Star defense to put Thistle up 2-0. Red Star started to argue amongst themselves and the next Thistle attack saw Brett Andrews blast home his second. Thistle fell asleep as for the next ten minutes they lost their grip on the game. Red Star scored from a perfectly harmless shot that trickled past the Thistle keeper. That goal seemed to inspire Red Star as they bombarded the Thistle defense. Their constant attacks paid off as George Kiss running back to defend the goal inadvertently redirected the ball into his own goal. At 3-2 Red Star were back in the game. Thistle regrouped and it was that man Brett Andrews coming up trumps as he completed his hat trick. That goal sank all hope of a Red Star come back, and when new boy Sammy Gunnion followed through on another Thistle attack, he scored, putting the game further out of reach. Thistle ran out the clock and finished the game 5-2 victors.

12/19/04 Partick Thistle 2-5 Celta Vigo. Thistle came out as though they were going to give Celta Vigo a run for their money as, Mirwyse Ahmady put them ahead. Two defensive errors though gave stand in goal keeper Phil Holliday no chance as Celta Vigo went in at the half 2-1 up. Thistle kept up the pressure in the second half and came close on a couple of occasions. Unfortunately lack of fitness on the Thistle side and too much speed from Celta Vigo took its toll as they extended their lead to 5-1. Thistle did pull a goal back after a long ball from Billy Smith found Eric Arlt, who hammered the ball home. Final score 5-2 to Celta Vigo.

12/12/04 Partick Thistle 1-5 Tyneside Utd. If the game was twenty minutes long you could of said that Thistle was in the game. Unfortunately Tyneside are too good of a side when errors in the defense along with their speed open up a two goal lead at the half. Apart from those two mishaps Thistle kept on trying to find a way past the Tyneside back line. With the game plan altered slightly Thistle opened up and it wasn't long before Tyneside exploited with another two quick goals. Thistle were running out of ideas and energy. Tyneside went on the counter attack and slotted home their fifth. Thistle did manage to score a consolation goal though, as Mirwyse Ahmady managed to dribble is way open and with is not so favored left foot drilled it home. Final score 5-1 to Tyneside.

12/05/04 Partick Thistle 2-1 Sin City Utd. This was a very entertaining game with many opportunities at both ends of the field. Thistle took the ball to Sin City but were unable to produce any goals. It was Sin City who opened the scoring as a harmless long ball took a deflection  into the path of a Sin City forward, who took full advantage to make it 1-0. Thistle kept on pressing and with some good movement down the right flank from George Varhelyi, he crossed the ball to find the head of Mirwyse Ahmady, who put away a rare header to equalize. It remained at 1-1 at the half. Both teams had a number of chances to put their side ahead but for some great goaltending from both keepers kept the score level. It was Thistle though who managed to get the winner as Seto Mardirossian kept up his goal scoring ways to make it 2-1.

11/21/04 Partick Thistle 0-7 Ajax. It was the coldest and probably the rainiest day of the year so far. May be that was the reason for the poor turn out. It is no excuse though but, to play a team like Ajax without a full squad is definitely suicidal. The eight players that did show up should be commended for their effort. Unfortunately, Ajax's strike force was too much for them to contend with as they put seven goals passed Thistle. Thank the Lord there is no game next week. Final score 7-0 to Ajax.

11/14/04 Partick Thistle 4-1 Ethio Star. Thistle played their most complete game of the season. Ethio Star possess some very skillful players that gave the Thistle defense a headache at times. Fortunately for Thistle some poor finishing produced no goals. At the other end though some good work in midfield from Mirwyse Ahmady and Brett Andrews gave Seto Mardirossian  the opportunity to find his goal scoring touch. With a couple of chances going his way, he put Thistle up at the half 2-0.  Ethio Star continued to move the ball around well but the Thistle defense with some good tackling and the use of the offside trap proved too much for them. As Ethio Star pushed forward  Seto Mardirossian saw the keeper off his line and punished him by scoring his hat trick. Ten minutes later he rounded off a perfect day as he shot from 35 yards out and scored his fourth. Ethio Star did manage a consolation goal as the Thistle defense took the foot off the peddle, making the final score 4-1.

11/07/04 Partick Thistle 1-2 Nationals. Thistle played their best game of the season and kept a Nationals side at bay for the whole of the first half. Thistle had the better chances and should have been one goal up after a Brett Andrews free kick looked as though the keeper had saved it over the line but the referee waved it off. Five minutes into the second half saw Nationals take a goal lead from a set piece after some bad marking by the Thistle defense. Thistle kept on attacking the Nationals goal and were awarded a penalty as Mirwyse Ahmady was brought down in the area. Mirwyse Ahmady stepped up to take the penalty and this time made no mistake. At 1-1 the game looked as though a draw would be a fair result. Nationals took advantage of some tired defending and split the two central defenders to score the winner. A lot better performance by Thistle but we still need to find a way to put the ball in the back of the net.

10/31/04 Partick Thistle 0-1 Stonefish Utd. This was a game, if wasn't for poor finishing on goal, Thistle should have won with comfort. It was a very physical game with a lot of hard tackles going in from both sides. The referees had their hands full. Half time the score was 0-0. Thistle came out strong attacking the Stonefish goal on numerous occasions but just couldn't get the finishing touch. The one mistake proved to be costly as Stonefish capitalized on the few chances they had to make it 1-0. Thistle kept on pushing forward and the job was made harder as  Hamid Beria was sent off for a second bookable offense.

10/24/04 Partick Thistle 3-1 Brewery. Thistle played with a lot more consistency today and for the most part of the game were in total control. Thistle opened the scoring with a great header from Brett Andrews and should of gone further ahead but for some poor finishing. It remained at 1-0 at the half. Thistle kept up the pressure on the Brewery goal, with the Brewery keeper making some fine saves. The one defensive error cost Thistle as Brewery capitalized on the mistake and equalized. Eric Arlt came off the bench and made an instant impact as he found himself at the right place at the right time to finish off a goal mouth scramble to put Thistle back in the lead. It wasn't long before he put away his second goal to make it 3-1. Thistle should have had three more but squandered their chances. All in all , it was a good performance and one to build on.

10/17/04 Partick Thistle 5-6 Celtic. Thistle lost the toss and had to go against the blustery wind conditions. A second blow was dealt to them as goalkeeper Mark Collingbourne was unavailable. It didn't take long for Celtic to capitalize on the conditions as a harmless cross from the right side drifted over the Thistle keepers head and into the back of the net. Another goal followed shortly as the Thistle defense was getting brutalized down the right. Thistle kept up the attack though and with some good running from George Varhelyi, he rounded the keeper and pulled one back. On the next Celtic attack though saw the Thistle defense allow a free header which made it 3-1. Thistle kept on attacking and it was George Varhelyi again causing all sorts of problems up front with his second. At last it seemed as though Thistle were getting a grip of the game and Charlie John followed up another George Varhelyi attacked to equalize. The ping pong game commenced but once again Thistle were being exploited down the right. The Thistle defender was caught in possession and from close range Celtic regained the lead for a 4-3 half time score. Only one goal down at the half and with the wind at our backs Thistle felt confident that they could take this game. Unfortunately the wind died down and the advantage was taken away. It didn't take long before George Varhelyi netted his hat-trick to even up the score. It seemed as though Thistle had taken control but Celtic went back to attacking the right flank. It paid dividends as they got back their two goal cushion and with Thistle arguing amongst themselves it looked as though all was lost. Mirwyse Ahmady, with some good dribbling skills worked his way into the Celtic area and was able to slot the ball home to make it 6-5. Thistle kept up the pressure to get the equalizer and were awarded a penalty for their efforts.  Mirwyse Ahmady stepped up to take it, the keeper guessed right and saved the day for Celtic. Thistle need to put some work in if they are going to get through their defensive troubles.

10/10/04 Partick Thistle 4-4 Red Star Belgrade. Thistle came out of the blocks quickly and within five minutes they were up 1-0 with Mirwyse Ahmady slotting home a Beckham like strike from outside of the box. Thistle had most of the play for the first twenty minutes and with his first touch of the ball Misha Kanto ran from the half way line to pick up a pass from George Varhelyi to make it 2-0. Red Star began to settle down and began to break through the Thistle defense. They constantly attacked down the right and managed to suck in the defenders to leave open a Red Star player on the left to slot it home into an empty net. That shook up the Thistle team as Red Star gained more and more confident as the game went on. It wasn't long before the equalizer came along to make it 2-2 at the half. The second half was back and forth. Red Star was awarded a free kick just outside of the box and before the wall got positioned it was 3-2. Next came the most unusual goal you will see this year as Mark Collingbourne, the Thistle goal keeper kicked a ball down field, there was a goal mouth scramble and with the Red Star goal keeper off his line, the ball bounced over his head for the goal. The game could go either way and it was Red Star who took the initiative and the lead. Thistle pushed forward and it was Mirwyse Ahmady who leveled the score at 4-4. Thistle kept applying the pressure and with the last attack of the game  George Varhelyi got open in the box and unselfishly slotted the ball across the face of the goal but Mirwyse Ahmady couldn't get a clean strike and the ball trickled past the post.

10/03/04 Partick Thistle 4-2 Sevilla. The first game of the new season saw the best turn out ever as Billy Smith had a choice of 24 players to pick from. The only easy choice was putting Mark Collingbourne in goal. Thistle got off to a magical start as George Varhelyi opened the scoring within five minutes. Thistle held Sevilla for the majority of the first half but, after relentlessly attacking down the middle they managed to get the equalizer. It ended 1-1 at the half. Sevilla kept up the momentum of that equalizer and with their first attack of the second half they took the lead. Thistle kept their heads up though and without hesitation  Mirwyse Ahmady leveled the game at 2-2. Sevilla didn't give up either as they kept the Thistle keeper busy, who made some top class saves to keep Thistle from going down again. The momentum began to change though. Thistle were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Mirwyse Ahmady stepped up to take the kick and delivered a great shot which the Sevilla keeper could only parry down into the path of Dustin Grady, who rifled into the back of the net. At 3-2, Thistle started to take control of the game and were constantly attacking the Sevilla goal. Brett Andrews, with some nice hustle for the ball, managed to get past two Sevilla defenders and poke home Thistle's fourth goal with the outside of his left foot. The final score was 4-2.

2004/05 Friendlies

09/26/04 Partick Thistle 1-1 Nationals. Another entertaining pre-season friendly game with some end to end football. Thistle had a lot of good chances but with some good staunch defending from Nationals prevented Thistle from capitalizing on them.  Thistle did take a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes but Nationals equalized with a confrontational goal, which saw both sets of players stop after the Nationals player was clearly offside. The referee  waved play on for Nationals to score what could only be called a lay up. Half time was 1-1. The second half was much the same as the first with the Nationals defense closing down any shot attempt made by Thistle.

09/19/04 Partick Thistle 2 - British Bulldogs 2
This was our second friendly game before the season starts in two weeks. It was a tough game plagued by high winds, probably a tie was a fair result. We spent most of the game chopping and changing and trying out new players.
Dustin Grady and Mirwyse Ahmady were our two goal-scorers on the day.
Next week is the last friendly before the season starts, we'll be playing the Nationals - be there no later than 12 noon.
Players with no uniform will be issued a kit this Sunday. And no Rod, you're not getting any more socks...

9/12/04 Partick Thistle 1 Syndicate 0. Thistle's second pre-season friendly proved to be a good test and with a good turn out Billy Smith had his hands full keeping track of who was on the pitch and who was playing were. It was a very close game and with the return of regular goal keeper Mark Collingbourne, the nets were a lot safer. Thistle had very few chances in the first half, but the good thing was that they had kept a clean sheet and defended well. 0-0 at the half. The second half commenced and it wasn't long before some good through balls and the ability to beat the offside track saw Mirwyse Ahmady clinically finish to put Thistle ahead 1-0. It was a good twenty minute spell for Thistle as they should have converted a couple more goals  to put Syndicate away. Syndicate did manage to have the last chance to equalize, but for a fine save from the Thistle goalie keeping  the final score at 1-0.

2004/05 Summer League

07/25/04 Thistle 6-4 Neville Landscaping. A good finish to the end of the season saw Thistle come back from a 2-0 deficit and claim victory to finish runners up in the Summer League. A brace of goals from Dustin Grady and one from George Varhelyi gave Thistle a 3-2 lead at the half. Thistle came out strong in the second half with some good build up in the midfield. Mirwyse Ahmady making the most of it scored a brace of goals for himself. With Thistle winning comfortably wholesale changes were made to give everyone a run. Neville Landscaping did make a run at it towards the end and pulled back a couple of goals. The result though was never in jeopardy as George Varhelyi completed his brace to make the final score 6-4. That being the last game of the season the winter league will commence in three weeks. So down to the gym for all of you and put in lots of cardio work. One sad note of the day though was hearing of John Kennedy needing an operation while in Florida to correct an intestinal problem. Everyone on the team and in the league wishes John a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing him on the touchline when he is at full strength.

07/18/04 Thistle 1-6 Ajax. Believe it or not the first half of this game was the best performance by Thistle this summer. Thistle kept Ajax at bay with some terrific defending and kept them busy in the midfield. The game went back and forth until five minutes from the half when Dacha Petrovic put in an excellent cross from the left, finding George Varhelyi in the box, who slotted the ball home for a 1-0 half time lead. Thistle went into the half full of confidence and even came out in the second half with a couple of good chances that could of blown the game wide open. It wasn't to be though as Ajax pushed everyone forward for a corner kick. Some weak marking by Thistle saw one of Ajax's big guys rise up and glance in the ball to tie up the game. After that the tiring defense and the constant pressure from Ajax created a defensive error to put Ajax up 2-1. Thistle pushed forward to no avail, as the gaps in the midfield started to open and Ajax took full advantage of it and began to score one goal after another. The final score was a lopsided 6-1. Congratulations to Ajax as they have now clinched the Summer League Championship.

07/11/04 Thistle 2-3 Brewery. Thistle's chance of defending it's championship took a very large dent today as poor finishing and the lack of defense in the first half cost them dearly. Brewery with a couple of new players looked very dangerous down their right flank as they continually broke the Thistle defense, who were found to be very disorganized. Brewery breached the Thistle defense three times in the first half, while George Varhelyi added one for Thistle to keep them in contention at the half. The second half was all pressure from Thistle. They attacked the Brewery nets with everything but the kitchen sink and could only come away with another goal from George Varhelyi. Missed opportunity after missed opportunity, with some frantic defending from the Brewery defensive saw the game end at 3-2.

07/10/04 Thistle 6-3 Sevilla. Thistle fielded a side with a lot of new faces, especially in the defensive end of the park. Thistle had control of the game early but a counter attack by Sevilla saw them split the Thistle defense to go up 1-0. It didn't take long for the equalizer though as Dacha Petrovic slotted home a brace of goals to put Thistle up 2-1. Sevilla were always on their back foot as Nikola Vlahovic made it 3-1 at the half. Hamid Beria making his team debut put Thistle further ahead and it wasn't long before Nikola Vlahovic scored his second goal and Thistle's 5th. After that the Thistle defense decided to take a siesta and let Sevilla back into the game to the dismay of the Thistle stand in goal keeper Phil Holliday. At 5-3 Thistle made a keeper change and within 5 minutes Thistle were comfortably in charge again as Phil Holliday drifted into the box and latch on to a pass to slot it home for the 6-3 victory.

06/27/04 Thistle 4-1 Rainforest Cafe. After a a couple of weeks off due to the European Championships, it was back to action for the Las Vegas Summer League. The 8.00 am start produced some excellent conditions for the game. Rainforest unfortunately fielded a weakened side and it showed as Thistle maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the game. Rainforest did have a goal disallowed for offside early on in the game but a brace of goals from George Varhelyi saw Thistle go in at the half 2-0 up. The second half was much the same as the first as Thistle kept up the pressure and were rewarded by their efforts from a well executed goal from Seto Mardirossian. The Thistle defense coasted for a while and allowed Rainforest a run down their right flank for a well placed cross for the Rainforest forward to squeeze it past the Thistle keeper and the post. At 3-1, Thistle maintained their dominance and a great run from  Dustin Grady, saw him chip the goal keeper for Thistles fourth.

06/06/04 Thistle 3-0 Chaos. This was the first game of the summer league and the first game for Chaos as a team. They came out passing the ball around well and looked liked they had some potential. Unfortunately the 110 degree temperatures and the lack of subs took it's toll early and George Varhelyi took advantage of a tiring defense to score Thistle's first goal. After that Thistle mounted more pressure with a lot of opportunities sailing wide. Misha Kanto and Phil Holliday (a rare goal) made it 3-0 at the half. Thistle were awarded the game at the half as Chaos couldn't cope with the temperatures and need a couple more weeks preparation to get their squad together.

06/06/04 The start of the summer league, 7 teams are registered. Our first game is 11am this Sunday and we don't know who we're playing yet. Fees for the summer league are $40 per player, subject to change, could be less, could be more, payable ASAP.

2003/04 Winter League

5/23/04 Thistle 1-1 Ethio Star. [3-5 Penalties].            Another hard fought game with end to end action. Thistle went with the wind in the first half but were unable to get a clear effort on goal to take advantage, until Dustin Grady crossed the ball over the edge of the penalty box for George Varhelyi to give a clever dummy to find open John Crocket, who blistered home a half volley to take a 1-0 lead. It didn't take long for the equalizer though, as the Thistle defense failed to take care of business and let a harmless situation turn bad. Ethio Star were awarded a penalty as the ball came off the arm of the Thistle defender. They had no problem converting the penalty to make it 1-1 at the half. The second half got underway and both teams had some great opportunities. Dustin Grady saw an excellent header go wide from a free kick, while some good goal tending from Mark Collingbourne kept Ethio Star out. Dustin Grady did manage to get the ball in the net only to find it being disallowed for an alleged infringement on the Ethio Star keeper. The score remained 1-1 at full time, so it was to be penalty kicks to decide who was to win the Playoff Cup. Ethio Star who advanced last week on penalties to get to the final showed no hesitation in slotting home all five penalty kicks. Unfortunately Thistle missed their fourth spot kick and had to be satisfied with the runners up medals. Congratulations to Ethio Star on having an excellent season.

5/16/04 Thistle 3-1 Rainforest Cafe. This was another closely contested match. Thistle took an early lead from a penalty kick taken by Seto Mardirossian, but were unable to take control. It was Rainforest who controlled most of the first half and were awarded a goal as the Thistle keeper made a rare mistake and was caught stranded. Half time was one a piece. The second half was as equally contested with both sides moving the ball up and down the pitch. It was good defensive hustle from Kevin Cramer which provided an opening for Charlie John from the half way line to coolly  chip the keeper for a 2-1 advantage. Five minutes later a great individual effort from George Varhelyi gave Thistle the cushion they needed as Rainforest were awarded a penalty. A poorly taken penalty saw Mark Collingbourne go 2 out of 3 in the penalty save statistic for the year. A great game saw Thistle advance to the final with the rubber match against Ethio Star. Final score 3-1.

5/09/04 Thistle 1-0 Ethio Star. This was an excellent game to watch as both teams went back and forth with lots of chances going both ways. Ethio Star dominated the midfield with some great ball skills and one twos. It was Thistle though who broke the dead lock from a well executed play from  George Varhelyi. It was 1-0 at the half. The second half was played at a frantic pace with both sides unable to capitalize. Some terrific goal tending from Mark Collingbourne kept Thistle in the game. The score remained at 1-0 to Thistle with some relieved faces on the Thistle side when the referee finally blew his whistle.

5/02/04 Thistle 5-4 Rainforest Cafe. Thistle came out strong and scored two unanswered goals. One from Seto Mardirossian and the other from George Varhelyi. Then the wheels fell off as it wasn't Rainforest who made the goals that came their way but it was Thistle who handed them to Rainforest. Three errors and three goals later saw Rainforest go off at the half with a 3-2 lead. After a stiff talking to and a little rearranging Thistle got it back in gear again with Seto Mardirossian scoring two more for his second hat trick in two games. The score at 4-3 and once again Thistle were unable to maintain their lead. Rainforest broke through the  Thistle defense who were trying to play the offside trap, with only the keeper to beat Rainforest equalized. The last ten minutes was very entertaining with both sides having opportunities to win the game. It was Thistle who prevailed with another goal from Seto Mardirossian. Thistle managed to hold onto this lead to win the game 5-4.

4/25/04 Thistle 8-2 Neville Landscaping. Thistle sporting their new uniforms (same as the old ones but a little more compatible with the Las Vegas temperatures), put on one of the best all around performances of the 2004 season. It wasn't too long before George Varhelyi (coming back from injury) found himself one and one with the keeper and open up the scoring. The second goal came from Nick Vilaholic with a brilliant volley shot. Neville Landscaping managed a break away down the left flank. The play should have been broken up but but a defensive miscue gave an open shot for the Neville Landscaping striker. Five minutes later Thistle got their two goal cushion again with a well executed run from George Varhelyi. Seto Mardirossian got on the score sheet to make it 4-1 at the half. The second half pretty much went the same as the first. Thistle totally dominated the game and both Seto Mardirossian and George Varhelyi were able to complete their hat tricks. Neville Landscaping were able to score a consolation goal after a goal mouth scramble to make it 7-2. Then it was Jude Ezeaghu to put the icing on the cake to make the final score 8-2.

4/18/04 Thistle 2-3 Syndicate. Thistle kept it together for the first 30 minutes of the game until a clever shot from 30 yards out found the inexperienced goalkeeper off the line, to see it go over his head. The game kept on going back and forth but a break away found a one and one situation with the Thistle keeper who had little chance to make it 2-0 at the half. Thistle came out a little stronger in the second half and applied most of the pressure. They were finally awarded a goal after some good work in the midfield for Rod Dobson to slot it in. Thistle were more confident after that goal but the equalizer was to be denied by the referee for offside. That decision caused the momentum to swing back into Syndicate's favour and with some good work down their right flank saw an excellent cross find the Syndicate striker, who headed the ball passed a flat footed keeper. The last 10 minutes was back and forth with Thistle pushing forward  and Syndicate counter attacking at every lost ball. Dustin Grady managed to find an opening in the Syndicate defense and pushed the ball passed the keeper to bring the score to 3-2.

4/04/04 Thistle 5-2 Brewery. With a squad of 24 we managed to get 10 players to show up for this game against the Brewery. 3 minutes into the game saw Thistle give away a dubious penalty after Dustin Grady made an excellent tackle inside the box. Brewery took the early lead but it was short lived as 10 minutes later Seto Mardirossian scored the equalizer. Thistle caught the Brewery defense napping again as Charlie John broke through  and slotted the ball home. It seemed as though Thistle were taking charge of the game until Brewery got another rare break away and with the ball scrabbling around in the box, somehow were awarded another penalty. Mark Collingbourne was not to beaten twice and made the Brewery pay as he crashed it off Mark's legs for a great save. Half time was 2-1. The second half got under way with a break down in midfield and Brewery counter attacking down the right side. A well taken shot saw Brewery level the score at 2-2. Thistle didn't let that get them down as another great through ball from Dustin Grady found Seto Mardirossian, who converted with an excellent left footed shot. Thistle kept on applying the pressure and it wasn't long before Rod Dobson split the defense to make it 4-2. Seto could of made his hat-trick on  numerous occasions hitting the post a couple of times but once again it was our illustrious leader who was found poaching on the right side of the goal who made it 5-2. All in all it was a well contested game with both sides walking of the park exhausted.

3/14/04 Thistle 1-2 Rainforest Cafe. A makeshift team put in a good performance against a Rainforest team that as always been threatening to break their loosing streak against Thistle. A defensive error down the right flank saw some good ball movement by Rainforest to see them take an early 1-0 lead. Thistle who kept most of the possession the entire game couldn't break the defense. It was 1-0 at the half. Thistle kept on applying the pressure and finally were awarded a goal when John Crocker gave some great hustle to get the ball to Seto Mardirossian who gave a neat turn and shot the ball into the back of the net for the equalizer. Thistle kept on moving forward but Rainforest put the squeeze on and with 5 minutes to go came on a counter attack to go ahead with the final score of the game.

2/29/04 Thistle 1-1 Syndicate. This was a great game that went back and forth and could of gone either way. Both teams had good scoring chances but it was Thistle who managed to score first with excellent pressure on the Syndicate defense with a cross from the right 'causing the defender to direct the ball into his own net. Syndicate scored on a similar move as the ball drop nicely for their attacker who slammed the ball home from close range. The sides were locked 1-1 at half time. The second half was played with opportunities going both ways but it was both goalkeepers who came up big and kept the score level.

2/22/04 Thistle 1-3 Ethio Star. You would of thought this game was being played in Scotland as it was a cold and rainy day. Having beaten Ethio Star 4-0 a month a go, you would of thought this game was in the bag. It wasn't to be though as Ethio Star played with a lot more discipline and scored on the chances that were given to them. Before we knew it Thistle were down 3-0 at the half. Thistle had all the possession for most part of the game but with poor finishing and the loss of the ball in midfield they couldn't string together enough clear cut chances to score. Thistle did eventually get the ball in the net with a great header from Dustin Grady to make it 3-1 but that was it. Another disappointing game on a wet and soggy day.

2/08/04 Thistle 4-0 Brewery. Thistle applied the pressure early but couldn't find the finishing touch to break the Brewery defense. It wasn't until the 20th minute when a poor dead ball kick was picked up at the edge of the Brewery box for Nickoli to pick up the scraps to score. It didn't take him long before he scored his second with a precision header in the top right hand corner of the Brewery net to make it 2-0. More pressure saw Thistle being awarded a penalty as a Brewery defender had handled the ball. Yilmas Orphan stepped up to take the penalty, his first attempt was disallowed because the referee wasn't ready. The following attempt was  successfully saved by the Brewery keeper. Yilmas made up for his miss by connecting onto another goal mouth scramble to make the score 3-0 at the half. The Brewery came out with a little more vigor in the second half as Thistle eased off the gas a little. It wasn't until the 20th minute of the second half  saw a nice pass through to George Varhelyi, break the Brewery defense and being brought down by the keeper. George Kiss decided he wanted to give the penalty kick a go and with out hesitation slotted the ball home and the game.

2/01/04 Thistle 6-4 Rainforest Cafe.

Mark the first goalie out with flu - Phil the second goalie out with leg injury - Kevin the third goalie didn't turn up because he was playing with his motorbike....(thinks he's Steve McQueen...) - fourth goalie Billy handed the job to fifth goalie Joe because he had a sore foot! After ten minutes we found ourselves 3 - 0 down and things weren't looking good. Managed to get ourselves together and pulled back 3 goals before the end of the first half. Went into the tunnel at half-time 3 - 3.
All the boys were given a stern talking to at half time by the coach (after he had got his breath back and his face had turned back to Scottish red as opposed to  Pollok purple...) and the boys stepped up a gear in the second half to cruise to a 6 - 4 victory.

1/25/04 On a blustery, windy day Thistle beat Ethio Star 4-0. George Varhelyi opening up the scoring for Thistle on a good move by Yilmas Orphan. Ethio Star looked dangerous on a couple of occasions with some skillful play in midfield but lacked the finishing power.  George Varhelyi broke away and was brought down in the penalty box. Unfortunately Yilmas Orphan's attempt was well saved by the Ethio Star keeper who pushed the ball wide for a corner. His miss was capitalized on the ensuing corner with a nice header from Charlie John. The score at half time 2-0. Ethio Star had trouble with the wind in the second half as they were consistently caught offside. Thistle caught Ethio Star on the counter attack with George Varhelyi slotting home is second. After that Ethio Star's discipline collapsed and Thistle attacked more freely. Charlie John had an opportunity to score his second but was ruled out by the linesman for offside. Kevin Crammer scored a cracking goal from outside the area to make it 4-0.

1/11/04 The New Year started off better than the old one finished with a commanding 4-1 victory over Brewery. Thistle with a few players still missing with injuries held the majority of the possession in the first half but squandered a lot of opportunities to test the Brewery keeper. Eventually Thistle broke the dead lock with a clever pass through from Dustin Grady finding George Varhelyi open to slot the ball home. A costly mistake in midfield gave away a break away goal to the Brewery to level the scores at half time. Thistle continued to hold most of the possession and it wasn't long before George Varhelyi scored his second. With a one goal lead Thistle felt a little more comfortable and kept on applying pressure to the Brewery defense. A nice individual effort from John Crocket put Thistle further ahead. With the game in the bag Thistle made a few changes.  Misha Kanto came on for a rare appearance and it didn't take five minutes before he found himself wide open to slot the ball into the net to make it 4-1.

12/21/03 The early start and Christmas shopping on their minds saw Thistle start the game with only 8 players. Not surprisingly Aston Villa who lie at the top of the table took full advantage of the situation and ripped apart the short handed Thistle defense scoring two quick goals. Towards the end of the first half a couple more players showed up and Thistle did manage to pull a goal back with an excellently finished goal by George Varhelyi. The second half started much the same as the first with another two quick goals from Villa who squandered a lot of opportunities to put the game away. At 4-1 Thistle kept on pushing forward and a goal mouth scrabble saw a hobbling Phil Holliday score from close range. That inspired the Thistle players to thinking that they had a chance. A couple of missed chances and another defensive error put an end to that as Villa put the game out of reach with a final score of 5-2.

12/14/03 Thistle put together their worst display of organized football in recent history. It wasn't just the turnovers in midfield, the many missed opportunities in front of goal or the mistakes in the defense but the constant bickering amongst each other. Give credit to Ajax though, who must of thought they were in a training session, they executed every opportunity they had. They had seven of them to Thistle's loan goal scored and well taken by Dustin Grady. Ajax 7 Thistle 1.

12/7/03 Well, miracles do happen on the same day. First, Partick Thistle (the one in Scotland) register their first victory of the season against Motherwell. Second, Billy Smith comes on and scores a cracking goal from outside the box to give Thistle a 4-1 victory over Neville Landscaping. George Varhelyi earlier scored a hat-trick of goals to give Thistle a comfortable lead.

11/16/03 A short handed Thistle team hobbled to another defeat to the hands of a well organized Nationals team. The game started off with a lot of promise as both teams attacked each others goal. It was the Nationals though that drew the first blood as they struck with two quick goals. As in previous weeks Thistle have not capitalized on their chances. It was 2-0 at the half. The second half began the same way as the first, but with the Thistle defense having to push up to create more offence it wasn't long before they were broken twice more. Thistle did not give up and were able to get through the stingy Nationals defense with a couple of break away goals from George Varhelyi. Thistle's come back fell short though and the final whistle blew for a Nationals win. Final score 4-2.

11/09/03 Thistle put in an excellent performance against Syndicate. Thistle dominating most of the action but were held scoreless at the half. George Varhelyi heading against the post was the closest Thistle came to scoring. Thistle applied more pressure to the Syndicate defense in the second half. Rod Dobson taking on the defenders down the right flank, getting behind them to find a wide open Charlie John who slotted the ball into the back of the net. Thistle widened their lead with a goal from Brett Andrews and a couple of great saves from Mark Collingbourne ensured the match finished at 2-0.

11/02/03 Thistle get back to winning ways but are far from the form they showed last season. The late kick off 'caused Thistle to field an under strength team but were able to put some good moments together to run out winners 3-1 against Rainforest Cafe. George Varhelyi netting two goals while a great individual effort from Yilmas Orphan down the left flank saw his cross deflect in for an own goal.

10/26/03 Thistle get off to their worst start ever as they go down 4-1 to a very much improved Juventude. Thistle have found themselves in a goal scoring drought with the defense having to back peddle for most of the game, the midfield as become totally non existent and not capable of serving the forward line. Thistle's only goal came from a penalty kick taken by Brett Andrews after a good run from George Varhelyi saw him being brought down. Half time score was 2-1 to Juventude. It was a pretty close game for most of the game but with Thistle having to push more and more forward to try and get the elusive equalizer, Juventude counter attacked with their newly acquired speed and picked up a couple more goals to put the game out of reach.

10/19/03 This was a game of two halves. Thistle's defense came up strong against a well tuned offence which is accustomed to roam freely and exploit the other teams flanks. Tyneside United were frustrated at not being able to break down the Thistle defense and were held scoreless at the half. The second half started in a similar fashion until a break away down the right flank and an excellent cross saw United get round the defender and open up the scoring. All was not lost until a wrong call by the referee gave a yellow card to the wrong guy, which ended up being called a red card for dissent. The wheels had fallen off and Tyneside opened up the flood gates as they exploited the extra gap in the Thistle defense. The final score Thistle 0-4 Tyneside United.

10/12/03 The Las Vegas Premier Soccer League got under way today with Thistle taking on their Crown And Anchor rivals Las Vegas Bulldogs. This game had a little more incentive as it was for the Crown and Anchor Cup. Thistle took charge of the early stages of the game but did not convert their chances. They did manage to take the lead before half time with a cracking goal from Frank Lowery. After the half though the Bulldogs took control and had a break away down the right flank, the pin pointed cross connected with the Bulldogs center forward who headed the ball past the Thistle keeper. That goal seemed to rattle the Thistle defense who kept getting caught flat footed. The bulldogs kept on applying the pressure and were duly rewarded with two more goals. Thistle did manage to pull one back to make the score 3-2 to what should of been a climatic finish to the game but another defensive error giving the ball away in the penalty box gave the Thistle goal keeper no chance but to pick the ball out of the back of the net. All in all it was a well deserved victory for the Bulldogs who made some adjustments within their defense and shut down the through ball to the Thistle attackers. Final score Thistle 2-4 Bulldogs.

2003/04 Summer League

10/05/03  Thistle are Champions of the Las Vegas Premier Summer League. The league officials made it more interesting with a winner take all. It was a very entertaining game with Syndicate taking charge of the early stages of the game. Syndicate opened up the scoring on a defensive error but, the lead was short lived with a great effort by George Varhelyi. The teams were locked in at one goal a piece at half time. After the break however it was Syndicate once again who broke the Thistle defense and took a 2-1 lead. Once again though Thistle kept on pushing and a long ball from the middle of the field caused problems for the Syndicate keeper and George Varhelyi was their for his second. Thistle started to get the upper hand and after a goal mouth scramble they were awarded a penalty as Yilmaz Orhan's shot was handled. Brett Andrews slotted the ball home with authority to make it 3-2. Syndicate went on an all out attack which left them vulnerable to the counter attack. Thistle extended their lead to 4-2 with 15 minutes to go. It could of been 5 but a harsh offside call prevented our illustrious leader Billy Smith putting his name on the score sheet. Syndicate did manage to score a third goal, which probably was the best goal of the game. It wasn't enough though as Thistle take home the honors with a well deserved 4-3 victory.

9/27/03 Brazil are the "Mambo Kings" while the "Speedo" title belongs to the Hungarians. Several Thistle players participated in the annual Hungarian Soccer Tournament. The tournament was held over a couple of days with the final  on  Saturday afternoon.

9/21/03 Rainforest Cafe gave Thistle every thing they had. A defensive lapse by two of Thistle's defenders gave Rainforest the lead. It was short lived though with George Varhelyi slotting home to tie the game before the half. Thistle came out strong in the second half and their efforts were rewarded with a second goal. Rainforest never gave up and kept finding holes in the Thistle defense and managed to equalize with a great shot from the left side. Thistle didn't panic though and after several near misses were able to find the go ahead goal. Charlie John scored Thistle's fourth goal after an excellent cross from the right,  George Kiss beat the keeper for Charlie to tap it in. Give Rainforest credit, with a couple of chances going their way it could of been a different story. Partick Thistle 4-2 Rainforest Cafe. Thistle only need a draw next week against Syndicate to clinch the Las Vegas Premier Summer League title.

9/14/03 It's official, Billy Smith caught in the act of trying to bribe referees John and Kevin before the game. (sporting nice new uniforms I may add). Thistle played a hard fought draw with Aston Villa who looked a totally different side to the two previous weeks. Thistle took a one goal lead into the half. Villa applied lots of pressure in the second half and finally broke the Thistle defense on a fast break. Thistle had an opportunity to steal the match but a great save from the Villa keeper kept the score at 1-1.

9/7/03   Thistle started off well going up 2-0 when a change in the ball saw them go in at half-time 2-2. The same team that started came back on again after the half and restored the two goal cushion. Thistle coming out winners against Ajax 4-2

8/24/03 Thistle open up the new summer league with a crushing victory over Havoc, with a score of 5-0.
